No, No, The Law Is A One-Way Street: New York City's lawyers have asked
a federal judge in Georgia to reconsider a ruling that a gun shop in
that state can proceed with a $400 million defamation lawsuit against
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other city officials. The city's motion says
public officials' speech about public issues should be immune from
lawsuits, said city lawyer Eric Proshansky. The lawsuit arose from
comments Bloomberg made in May 2006 after he sued gun dealers in several
states, including Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna, Ga. He accused them of
allowing the illegal purchase of guns that end up in criminal hands.
(According to NYC, federal courts should only be for litigation against
the firearm industry.)

Just Stand There While I Die: The first time someone tried to mug me in
Washington D.C., I ran away as he threatened to shoot me from behind.
The second time, when the exact same situation arose, I knew better. I
stopped and turned around to confront the robber as soon as he
threatened to shoot: "Hey, buddy!" I said confidently. "Who do you think
you're fooling? Guns are outlawed in the District of Columbia - I know
you don't really have one."

Another Illinois County Considers Pro-RKBA Resolution: The Coles County
Board is being asked to lend its support to an organization backing gun
owner rights at the state and federal level. At its meeting tonight, the
board is scheduled to vote on a resolution to "oppose the enactment of
any legislation that would infringe upon the rights of the people to
keep and bear arms." John Hamilton, a Charleston resident, asked the
board to consider the matter and said he's working with a group called
Illinois Pro-Second Amendment Resolution. He said about 45 counties in
Illinois have already adopted the resolution.

Intrusive Pediatricians: ...Debbie is a mom from Uxbridge who was in the
examination room when the pediatrician asked her 5-year-old, "Does Daddy
own a gun?" When the little girl said yes, the doctor began grilling her
and her mom about the number and type of guns, how they are stored, etc.
If the incident had ended there, it would have merely been annoying. But
when a friend in law enforcement let Debbie know that her doctor had
filed a report with the police about her family's (entirely legal) gun
ownership, she got mad. She also got a new doctor

What, Me Lie?: Is a major media outlet teaming up with the Broward
County sheriff's office to lie about the effects of the Clinton Gun
Ban? It happened once before, in 2003, and now it looks like it may be
happening again. There've been a lot of blogs that have covered this
story, but the blog Call me Ahab probably has the best summary of the
story. The "CBS Evening News" ran a story about AK-47s that are
supposedly flooding the streets of Broward County. But after taking a
look at the confiscated firearms put on display by the Broward County
sheriff's office, I have my doubts. See, none of the guns they put on
display can be identified as AK-47s. In fact, there are only a few
semi-automatic rifles on display at all. But there are more than a
dozen handguns, an over/under shotgun, and what looks like a muzzleloader!

Ops, Wrong Dry Cleaner: ...A man smelling of alcohol came into his store
in the 1500 block of John West Road in Far East Dallas and then just
left, Mr. Baggett said. A few minutes later, he returned, this time
barging in holding a gun. "The money's over there; go get it," Mr.
Baggett recalled saying as he backed away from the counter and motioned
toward the register. His wife ducked around a corner... Mr. Baggett said
he felt the robber's pistol come off the back of his head, so he spun
around and grabbed it. "I don't think he was expecting that." The pair
struggled a moment until Mr. Baggett pushed the robber away. Mr.
Baggett's wife handed him the 9 mm, and he fired three times. A bullet
hit the robber in the face...

Colorado Man May Be Charged For Saving Puppy: ...Still, Kocar said his
eyes adjusted "quick enough" when the cougar looked up from the puppy in
its clutches. "I took the shot, and that was the end of it," said Kocar,
31, who now finds himself facing possible criminal charges for shooting
the adult male lion..."We do have laws that allow people to protect
their safety and their livestock," Churchill said. "But this is the
tricky gray area of it being a dog."

Rule Two Reminder: A Sheriff's commander cleaning his handgun
accidentally shot himself last Wednesday while working in the Apache
County (AZ) Sheriff's Office in St. Johns... "A single round struck the
employee in the left hand and then hit a desk," said a prepared
statement from the Sheriff's Office. Hunt was transported by ambulance
to the St. Johns Airport and flown to a Scottsdale hospital. Sources
close to the investigation said Hunt had surgery Wednesday evening to
repair his injured hand and faces possible amputation of his pinky
finger. (Rule Two: Don't let the muzzle cross anything you're not
prepared to shoot. I'll bet it was a Glock, being disassembled for
cleaning.)
