DC Files Appeal To Retain Handgun Ban: D.C. officials yesterday asked
the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a ruling that struck down the city's
30-year-old handgun ban...Mrs. Singer said she expects to hear in
November whether the Supreme Court will hear the case, which could lead
to the first direct ruling by the high court on the Second Amendment
since 1939. If the Supreme Court rejects the case, the U.S. Court of
Appeals for the D.C. Circuit will instruct the U.S. District Court on
how to enforce the ruling. Residents then can register legally obtained
handguns.

Texas Decriminalizes Unlicensed Vehicle Carry: ...Now, it simply isn't
an offense to carry a gun in a vehicle, but with these three critical
qualifiers: (1) the gun must be concealed; (2) the carrier cannot be
involved in criminal activities; (3) the carrier cannot be a member of a
criminal gang. The fourth rule isn't mentioned in the bill, but stands
from laws on the books for a long time, and that is that no felon can
carry or even be around a gun.

More CHL Statistics From Ohio: Attorney General Marc Dann has released
the concealed handgun license (CHL) statistics for the second quarter of
2007. Once again, the numbers prove there is continued demand for CHL's,
and those who have a license are following the laws. There have been
98,989 regular, and 233 temporary emergency licenses (TEL's) issued by
Ohio's 88 sheriffs since Ohio began issuing the licenses in 2004. Less
than 1% of those have been suspended or revoked for any reason.

Firm Proposes Recycling Lead From Ranges: More than 1 billion bullets a
year are being fired by armies around the world in training and in
combat, consuming so much lead that law enforcement agencies in the U.S.
say they are facing a critical shortage of ammunition for training.
Experts at Metals Treatment Technologies (MT2), an environmental
technology firm which owns patented processes for recovering, treating
and neutralizing toxic metals, say the solution will require a major
initiative to recover spent lead from the nation's firing ranges for
reprocessing into ammunition.

Shooting Was Legal, Gun Possession Was Not: Authorities have determined
Danny Dutton acted in self-defense when he shot and killed a violent
intruder at his Hurricane apartment earlier this year. But in a case of
legal Catch-22, Dutton has been ordered to stand trial for possessing
the gun he used to kill Aaron Rondan Barbosa during a March 24 break-in.
Because of a 2004 felony conviction for cultivating marijuana, Dutton -
a nephew of Hurricane Mayor Tom Hirschi - is prohibited from possessing
firearms.
