DC Mayor, Attorney General Defend Handgun Ban: As mayor and attorney
general of the District of Columbia, we were deeply disappointed this
year when the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit declared that
the District's longstanding handgun ban violates the Second Amendment.
Today we are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to review the decision in
that case, which we think threatens public safety and is wrong on the law.

That Should Do The Trick: "In the immediate aftermath of the tragic
events at Virginia Tech in April, many questions arose about whether the
person responsible was prohibited under federal law from possessing a
firearm and how the shooter passed the background check required before
purchasing the two firearms used," said ATF Acting Director Michael J.
Sullivan. "ATF is clarifying this form in an effort to make it clear
that any person who has been found by a court board or other lawful
authority to be a danger to self or others is prohibited from purchasing
a firearm or ammunition."

Oops, Wrong House: The El Paso County Sheriff's Office investigated a
shooting in Canutillo Saturday morning. It happened on the 800 block of
Anthony Road early Saturday morning, when deputies said a 21-year-old
man attempted to cause damage or commit a theft. The woman who lived in
the home called her father, who lives a few houses away. He showed up
with a handgun and confronted the 21-year old outside. Deputies said the
father fired a warning shot first, and fired at the man when the 21-year
old charged after him.

One Victim Too Many: A pair of Georgia crack-smokers, one of whom had
just been released from prison, chose to rob some young adults who were
moving out of a rented house. Several visitors trickled in during the
robbery, only to become victims themselves. Finally, the robbery ended
when the latest victim shot both robbers, one of them fatally.

Protest Nix Change In German Firearms Law: German Interior Minister
Wolfgang Schaeuble dropped plans to ease gun-control laws, bowing to
complaints within the ruling coalition that the move threatened public
safety... Schaeuble had sought to reverse an increase in the minimum age
for possessing major firearms to 21 from 18, passed by former Chancellor
Gerhard Schroeder after a shooting rampage at a high school in eastern
Germany killed 18 people in April 2002.

Is This It?: At this year's SHOT Show, Smith & Wesson displayed newly
manufactured first-generation Centennial revolvers, chambered in the
original .38 Special and purportedly to be offered in blued-steel,
nickel-plated and case-hardened finishes. Because of the grip safety,
these revolvers would not be encumbered with the integral key lock. So
far, S&W has only posted one model with a grip safety on their website
and it is not an original Model 40.
