Virginia Slammed As Gun Source: Law enforcement authorities traced more
than 10,000 guns recovered in Virginia, Maryland and the District (DC)
last year - and nearly half came from Virginia, according to federal
data released yesterday...Most of the guns traced by the ATF came from
the states where they were recovered, the agency said. The vast majority
of guns tied to Virginia were also recovered there. But Virginia was the
second-leading source for many other states along the East Coast...In
the District, which has one of the toughest gun laws in the country,
authorities traced nearly 1,100 guns. Of those, 289 were from Maryland
and 277 from Virginia. The District was the only city analyzed in the
ATF's report.

The Case Formerly Known As Parker: ...The case name has now changed. As
pleadings for certiorari move forward, the case will now be known as
District of Columbia vs. Heller. The reason for this change is that it
was decided that Dick Heller was the only plaintiff who still had legal
standing. Heller is a D.C. police officer who is licensed to carry a
firearm in Washington D.C. due to his employment at the Thurgood
Marshall Federal Judiciary Building...

Pennsylvania Town To Repeal Carry Ban: Tonight, Ellwood City Council
plans to repeal the ban enacted last month on carrying guns into borough
buildings and vehicles. The only exceptions were certified law
enforcement officers..."We can't ban guns as I understand it," noted
vice president Tony Court last night. "It's unconstitutional. We thought
we could do it because they're banned in the courthouse. I guess we may
have overstepped our bounds; our stance is to back off a bit."

Computer Upgrade Will Postpone Pennsylvania Gun Sales: Gun dealers and
their legislative allies are criticizing a four-day freeze on firearms
sales in Pennsylvania next month. The gun sales hiatus is being ordered
so that the state police can improve its computerized system of
background checks for prospective gun buyers. Leaders of the
Pennsylvania Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus are asking Governor Ed
Rendell and the state police to postpone or reconsider how the early
September shutdown is being handled.

Prohibitionist Propaganda About Tiahrt Amendment May Confuse Police:
Local police forces last year asked the ATF for help investigating
whether an estimated 284,000 weapons were legally sold, officials said
Monday. But Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Director
Michael J. Sullivan said he's worried that fewer police departments will
request assistance because of new legislation barring public release of
so-called gun trace data, which tracks gun sales in specific cases. "My
biggest concern is we have law enforcement departments out there that
believe that they can't get access to trace information, so they're not
even asking for it," Sullivan told reporters at ATF headquarters. "And
it's undermining their ability to advance their investigations."

California Store Owner Cleared In Shooting of Robber: A Yuba City market
owner who shot and killed an armed robber will not be charged with a
crime, Sutter County District Attorney Carl Adams said Monday. Adams
said the woman, who co-owns the Percy Avenue Market, acted in
self-defense when she pulled a .38 caliber revolver from a drawer the
night of Aug. 10 and shot Billy Lloyd Saling at point-blank range.
(Sutter County is considered a virtually shall-issue county for CCW.)

Brady Bunch Solicits Video Clips: As students resume classes at Virginia
Tech and other schools across the country, the Brady Campaign to Prevent
Gun Violence today launched a website called Vidivoice, which offers
individuals the opportunity to post brief videos made from cell phones
or camcorders in which they can express their thoughts about gun
violence, offer solutions that would make communities safer, and ask the
general public, friends, elected officials and those running for higher
office, "What are you going to do?" to make the country safer from gun
violence. (How about arming a higher proportion of honest citizens?)
