NYC Stumbles With Prosecution Of Local Gun Dealer: The case of a
licensed gun dealer busted 14 months ago as part of Mayor Bloomberg's
anti-gun initiative has been stalled repeatedly to give prosecutors time
to discuss strategy with City Hall, a lawyer for the defendant claims.

NRA Challenges Local Pennsylvania Weapon Ban: The National Rifle
Association said Ellwood City council's ban on carrying firearms onto
borough property may be unconstitutional. Last month, council adopted an
ordinance that allows only certified law enforcement officers to carry
any weapons in the municipal building, parks or on other borough
property and borough-owned vehicles.

North Carolina Sheriff Opposes Local Weapon Ban: Consideration of a
weapons ban in Craven County buildings appears to be over. Craven County
Sheriff Jerry Monette told the county commissioners Monday night that a
ban would have little effect. "Those who would do it without a lawful
permit are going to do it anyway," he said. "An ordinance would not
restrict them."

Sacramento Mulls Local Firearm Ordinances: One would require sellers of
ammunition to keep a record of all sales, including the name, address
and thumbprint of the buyer, along with the brand, type and quantity of
ammo sold...A second ordinance would require gun owners to report the
theft of a firearm to police within 48 hours. (Regulation of deadly
weapons is pre-empted by the state in California but such local
ordinances are passed to pressure the legislature to create similar
statewide infringements.)

Florida Officers Sued Over CCW Arrest: A motorist stopped for speeding
was arrested after officers found a handgun in his car's glove
compartment. Prosecutors declined to prosecute the case, citing case law
that says a gun owner does not need a concealed weapons permit in order
to carry a firearm in a vehicle...The head of the state's licensing
division said the statute is not clear and only gives "hints" on how to
interpret it.

Jesse Jackson Requests Jury Trial: It's familiar territory for the Rev.
Jesse Jackson: Facing legal trouble for his activist politics. This time
it's for protesting gun sales he says provide Chicago gang members and
criminals easy access to firearms, with deadly consequences. Jackson,
65, has been arrested about 15 times during his career as a civil rights
leader, dating back to the 1960s when he worked closely with Martin
Luther King Jr., said spokeswoman Rashida Restaino.

Not Too Bright: A Florida man was fatally shot inside a mini-mart after
he persisted in a fight with another customer who had already warned the
troublemaker that he was armed. The gunman is cooperating with police
and the entire incident was recorded by surveillance cameras. Police and
the state attorneys office will review the evidence and witness
statements to decide if the shooting was in self defense or if the
gunman should be charged with a crime.

Tangentially Related: Those who have taken my Arizona CWP course will
recall my mention that Arizona's guarantee of a jury trial does not
extend to most misdemeanor offenses. (CCW without a permit and carrying
a firearm where it is prohibited by statute or property owner are some
misdemeanors.) This article explores just how challenging it is to
determine if a right to jury trial for a misdemeanor exists in Arizona.
