Legendary Gunfighter, Trainer Dies In Car Wreck: I am sad to share the
news that the legendary Jim Cirillo was killed in a motor-vehicle
accident in upstate New York. A great deal of what I teach, both in
tactics and technique, came to us via Jim. I deeply treasure the time
that Jim spent in conversation with me, mostly via telephone, as well as
the courses I took from him at a few seminars of the now-defunct
American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers.

Missouri Law Will Eliminate Local Pistol Permits: Under existing law,
anyone who wants to buy a concealable firearm must apply for a permit
from the county sheriff, who conducts a background check. If the
applicant meets statutory requirements, the sheriff issues a
permit...Jessica Robinson, spokeswoman for Blunt, said the bill
"eliminates the duplication and redundancy of having a background check
done at both the local and federal levels. So now what was duplicative,
what was a repeat of the same test, will be done once to ensure that
there are protections and it's law-abiding citizens that have access to
the firearms."

Philadelphia Gun Lawsuit Indirect Tactic: A lawsuit filed yesterday by
City Council members, seeking to override a state law preventing local
gun regulations, has little chance of succeeding in court but could help
to rally support for a broader gun-control effort in Harrisburg,
observers said yesterday.

Tiahrt Amendment Inhibits Local Law Enforcement?: New York's Daily News,
a major cheerleader for Mayor Bloomberg's unsuccessful efforts to repeal
the Tiahrt amendment, reports that it took a total of three hours for
BATFE to trace the three handguns recovered after the recent shooting of
two NYPD officers. Within an additional five hours, NYPD detectives were
flying to the states where the guns had been purchased. Yet, the Daily
News still attacks the Tiahrt amendment.

threatened to run negative ads against House Appropriations Committee

One More Illinois County Backs RKBA: The Adams County Board approved a
resolution Tuesday opposing the enactment of any legislation infringing
upon the public's right to keep and bear arms. The resolution was passed
unanimously without discussion, making Adams County the latest in a
string of Illinois counties to approve a resolution of this nature,
including several in the immediate area.

Hypocrisy In Texas?: The Valdosta Daily Times (in Georgia) takes a Texas
state legislator to task for having voted against that state's
castle-doctrine bill, then using a handgun to defend himself when
confronted by thieves at the construction site of his new home.

Yes But...: A commentator in Florida complains that many people are
obtaining CWFL's without proper training. (I'm all for training but not
as a requirement to exercise a Natural right. Where's the evidence that
those licensees without proper training are disproportionately involved
wrongful shootings or negligent discharges?)

Napolitano vs. Fish: A commentator for the usually left-wing Tucson
Citizen summarizes the incident that resulted in a murder conviction for
a retired teacher in Arizona and the persistent refusal of the governor
to sign legislation that would make the state's current self-defense law
retroactive to the time of his trial.

Here We Go Again...: Reuters continues to beat the drum, complaining
about firearms from American border states being smuggled into Mexico.
This report appears to emphasize straw purchases and private-party
transactions at gun shows. (Watch for increased BATFE action on these
fronts.)

What Hope For 2008?: David Codrea looks at the presidential frontrunners

Republican Tom Tancredo looks like the best choice but I'm not holding
