DC Mayor Close To Decision On Parker Appeal: D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty
yesterday said he is close to a decision on whether city officials will
appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court a federal court ruling that would
repeal the District's 30-year-old handgun ban...Metropolitan Police
spokeswoman Traci Hughes said if the mayor does not appeal the ruling to
the Supreme Court and the D.C. Council does not enact any legislation
restricting the sale or use of handguns, residents can begin legally
purchasing guns after the appeal period expires.

Do As I Say, Not As I Do: An anti-gun activist admitted on a radio show
yesterday he made an illegal "straw" purchase of a firearm at an
out-of-state gun show with the help of a Boston Globe
reporter..."Unfortunately, the person most vocal in Massachusetts about
increasing the restrictions on lawful gun ownership has himself
committed a gun crime and will most likely never be prosecuted for it,"
said Gun Owners Action League in a statement reacting to the disclosure.
"This is yet another example of the great hypocrisy from the anti-civil
rights elite."

SAF Praises Mayor For Quitting Bloomberg Group: Applauding the blunt
honesty of Oldmans Township, NJ Mayor Harry Moore in his resignation
letter to New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's anti-gun Mayors Against
Illegal Guns, the Second Amendment Foundation today said Moore's candor
should be an inspiration to everyone who opposes political demagoguery.
Mr. Moore is the sixth mayor to quit the coalition.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg Heads To DC: Mr. Bloomberg will also use today's
trip to Washington to pressure Congress to drop the so-called Tiahrt
Amendment from a bill the House Appropriations Committee is scheduled to
vote on later this week. A Senate committee approved the Tiahrt
provision - which limits how local police can use federal gun trace data
- last month despite opposition from Mr. Bloomberg and his Coalition of
Mayor's Against Illegal Guns. (Actually, it blocks mayors like Bloomberg
from using such data to sue firearm manufacturers.)

Tiahrt Amendment May Hang By One Vote: House Democrats are "one vote
away" from repealing an appropriations amendment that restricts local
law enforcement's ability to access federal gun trace data. Second
Amendment supporters say the amendment protects police investigations
and prevents anti-gun groups from using gun trace data in "frivolous"
civil lawsuits against the firearms industry.

Nebraska CCW Hits Six-Month Mark: Since the first of the year when the
law took effect, more than 16-thousand concealed-carry permits have been
issued to Nebraskans, 95 of them in Norfolk. Another 200 or so statewide
under consideration. So far only five have been turned down. A Nebraska
State Patrol spokesperson says that's because the paperwork wasn't
complete or they didn't meet guidelines. (The next paragraph seems to
contradict the 16,000 figure.)

New Jersey Bill Would Limit Replica Firearms: A New Jersey senator wants
to make it illegal to sell or give to anyone under age 18 toy guns that
look so realistic they can be mistaken for a real firearm. "The margin
between a child's stupid mistake and a tragic ending is far too thin,"
said Sen. Nicholas Scutari.

Meanwhile, In Wisconsin...: A ban on the use of "facsimile firearms" in
the city of Madison is one step closer to reality following a meeting of
the Board of Estimates on Monday night. The Common Council committee
recommended approval of the ordinance, which would conform city code to
state law. Specifically, it would prohibit persons from carrying or
displaying "a facsimile firearm in a manner that could reasonably be
expected to alarm, intimidate, threaten or terrify another person" and
establishes a fine of $300 per violation.

Babes With Bullets: They stand with their feet square, knees slightly
bent and hands up ready to draw. "Load and make ready," Kay Miculek,
instructor and nine-time national action pistol champion, shouts. "Stand
by." Then, with the loud beep of the timer, rounds are unloaded towards
steel targets...

From GOA: ...Pennsylvania is operating exactly the way Rep. McCarthy's
bill (HR 2640) could treat all Americans. You might be thinking, I've
never had a mental illness... I'm not a military veteran... I've never
been on Ritalin... hey, I have nothing to worry about under the McCarthy
bill. Right?
