Ohio Self-Defense Bills Assigned To Committees: SB184 and HB264 have
been assigned to good committees. SB184 is in the Senate Criminal
Justice Committee, which is chaired by our good friend Tim Grendell
(R-18), and HB264 is in the House Criminal Justice Committee, chaired by
our long time supporter Bob Latta (R-6). Looking at the list of
co-sponsors, it is important to know who our strongest friends are.
These are the people who are leading the fight to reform our current
ill-conceived firearms laws.

Maryland To Implement New Restrictions On Firearm Purchases: MSP has
quietly notified dealers around the state that new restrictions on
purchase of regulated firearms (handguns and select long guns) will take
effect on August 1. Starting that date, any application to purchase such
firearms will be administratively denied if it does not contain a
release authorizing police to access medical records which may be on
file at any state agency - or at any agency anywhere - in order to
decide if the applicant is eligible to possess a gun. MSP will now
assess your mental health when it decides whether to approve your purchase.

Anti-RKBA Police Chief Fired In Massachusetts: Falmouth, MA, Police
Chief David Cusolito is out of a job. Since becoming Falmouth's Chief of
Police in 1997, Cusolito has continuously been in the news because of
his reported hostile attitude towards the public's right to self-defense
and his general antipathy to citizens' gun rights. His tenure has been
marked by an ongoing controversy regarding firearms use and ownership -
even by his own police officers.

Another Illinois County Joins RKBA Movement: The Wabash County Board of
Commissioners approved of a movement supporting the Second Amendment at
the county board meeting Monday. The measure is a reaction against a
"restrictive" firearms legislation being introduced by Cook County
legislators. Sheriff Joe Keeling and former sheriff Terry McWilliams
were at the County Board meeting in support of the proposal.

Ohio Newspaper Under Fire For Outing Gun Owners: An Ohio newspaper's
decision to publish the non-public records of concealed carry permit
holders drew a strong response, and one gun rights advocacy group
published personal but public information about the newspaper's
editor...In retaliation - and to illustrate the ease of finding personal
information when given a name - the BFA began printing personal
information about Sandusky Register Managing Editor Matt Westerhold. The
information, while personal, is available through public records searches.

Another Warning-Shot Incident: A South Carolina burglar picked the wrong
home...Cook used his .22 caliber gun to fire a warning shot into the
ceiling, but the bullet ricocheted and part of it hit the intruder in
the forehead, said Lt. Hank Guess with the Hickory Police Department. "I
wasn't aiming for him. I've handled guns since I was 12," Cook said. "If
I wanted to hit him, I would have. If he'd moved, the next shot would
have stopped him." (Methinks this gentleman may have some misplaced
confidence in the stopping power of a .22.)

Here's An Idea...: In an effort to bring back a tradition from his own
childhood, an 84-year-old man has created a BB gun shooting range for
children. Ted Dowdell decided to turn the barn next to his home near
Cleveland into a free shooting range for children. "The kids don't get a
chance to shoot a BB these days," Dowdell said. "I'm just a host
inviting my guests to come and shoot."

Shades Of The Guttersnipe: Instead of utilizing the standard
front-and-rear sight setup, the NET tactical pistol sight is a one-piece
elongated low-profile rear sight comprised of a red fiber optic sight
housed inside a lightweight polymer and extruded aluminum case...To use
the sight, you just bring the pistol up and aim it at the target in the
normal fashion while keeping both eyes open. When you can see the entire
fiber-optic sight as a complete red circle (solid red circular dot)
superimposed over (or directly underneath) the aiming point (i.e.
target), fire! (What if there is no appreciable ambient light?)

Brits Note American Calls To End Gun-Free Zones: "Imagine you are in a
restaurant and a mad man is walking around from table to table, pointing
a gun, taking aim and pulling the trigger, going to the next person,
taking aim, pulling the trigger and so on," says Suzanna Hupp...
