NRA, Congressional Democrats Battle Over Gun-Trace Data: For the first
time since taking control of Congress, gun-control Democrats are taking
on the National Rifle Association. The NRA seems to be nipping the
effort in the bud. At issue is whether Congress should loosen
restrictions on local law enforcement agencies' ability to gain access
to gun-purchasing data to trace the movement of illegal guns around the
nation.

nine more counties have similar resolutions proposed for board

Judge Dismisses Wisconsin Anti-CCW Lawsuit: ...He dismissed a lawsuit by
former Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager. The suit accused two
Republican lawmakers of violating the open records law by sharing the

them with her office...

New York Student Cleared On Weapons Charges: A grand jury today cleared
a Rochester Institute of Technology student of charges that he possessed
illegal assault rifles in his room. The grand jury found that the rifles
Hackenburg admitted having in his room at the RIT Inn and Conference
Center weren't illegal assault weapons as defined as New York's Penal
Law. The grand jury also found that Hackenburg didn't violate a law
prohibiting the possession of weapons in a building used for educational
purposes because the RIT Inn is a mixed-used facility that caters to
members of the general public, as well as students who live there.

Strange Commentary: An editorial from south Florida calls the acquittal
of the man who shot three assailants in a Jeep the correct decision but
also says the state was right to prosecute him. While in jail, his house
was torched to timbers. His four dogs had to be euthanized. The act of
killing two human beings has left him traumatized. And his lawyer, and
even the prosecutor, believes his life may be in danger from
retaliation. (The editors need to look up the word "vigilantism.")

More On Connecticut Armed-Citizens' Patrol: ...Turn-of-the-century
carriage houses sport manicured lawns. Tall elm trees really do line Elm
Street. And every night since youths beat up a rabbi's son three weeks
ago, members of the newly formed Edgewood Park Defense Patrol (EPDP)
have been walking the streets at night. Roughly half of them have
permits to carry concealed weapons and take a handgun on patrol...

Boston Mayor Way Off Target: ...Blaming the NRA for the death of
Liquarry Jefferson is like blaming the American Cutlery Institute for
the O.J. Simpson murders. Even the most ardent gun control advocate must
admit that, for most of little Liquarry's life, the least of his worries
was the state of America's gun laws...

Oops, Wrong Gun: Los Angeles police are investigating how a veteran
department firearms instructor shot and wounded another officer in the
left hamstring at a training facility this week when he mistook a loaded
handgun for a mock version of the weapon. The incident occurred about 4
p.m. Monday at the Edward M. Davis Training Facility in Granada Hills as
the two instructors, who train new recruits, were transitioning from
teaching a class with live firearms to an exercise using mock handguns
that look and sound like real weapons but do not discharge bullets.

Officer Will Not Be Charged For Shooting Daughter: A state prosecutor
has determined that a New Haven police officer will not face charges for
accidentally shooting his daughter in their Stratford home. State's
Attorney Jonathan Benedict issued a letter saying he had decided not to
prosecute Officials Eric Scott, who wounded his 18-year-old daughter in
the leg in their Soundview Avenue home last month, apparently mistaking
her for an intruder. (Note the wound to the leg, when a shot is pushed
low and typically to the shooter's non-dominant side.)
