Tennessee Passes Anti-Confiscation Bill: Wednesday, Tennessee senators
assured residents of the Volunteer State they will keep their guns, even
in a State of Emergency...Initially, Governor Phil Bredesen showed
concern about giving up power during statewide emergencies, but that has
changed. The governor is not expected to veto the measure.

Georgia Parking-Lot-Storage Bill Killed In Senate: The decision by
Senate leaders not to bring the measure up for a vote by the end of
"Crossover Day" means the bill won't pass the Senate this year and
therefore cannot go on to the House for full passage.

The New York Times vs. Parking-Lot Storage: ...Two conservative
powerhouses - gun fanciers and business leaders - are facing off in
statehouses over the gun lobby's attempt to stop employers from
exercising their property rights and barring workers from carrying
firearms to work.

Bill Would Create Firearm Registration In Pennsylvania: The registration
would cost the gun owner $10 per gun each year. The bill also calls for
each gun owner to be fingerprinted, have a back ground check, and to
submit passport-style photos for registration cards. The registration
card for each gun would then have to be carried with that gun at all
times. Any gun that registration is denied for would then be confiscated
by the state police.

Support Grows For Bill To Overturn DC Gun Ban: U.S. Sens. Lamar
Alexander and Bob Corker Thursday announced that in support of Second
Amendment rights, they are cosponsoring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison's
(R-TX) bill to repeal the ban on certain firearms in the District of
Columbia. (Depending on your assessment of whether the Parker decision
will survive subsequent appeals, passage could be a bad thing as it
would render the decision void.)

Parker May Be The Beginning Of A Larger Battle: ...Conservative legal
scholars see this case as potentially harkening a change in the way
Americans view the courts and the Constitution. John Yoo of Boalt Law
School doubts it will affect those with hardened views on each side but
suggests that "the decision may sway moderates who are undecided about
gun control, and remind them that the Founding Fathers understood the
Bill of Rights to protect the individual right to bear arms."

More Musings On The Second Amendment: How to interpret the Second
Amendment - a question raised anew by the March 9 ruling by the U.S.
Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, which many believe may prompt a
High Court review - is a subset of how to interpret any provision of the
Constitution. Happily, one of the Federalist Founders, Alexander
Hamilton, provided a very handy guide...

Liberals Begin Recognizing Second Amendment: ...Liberal journalist
Michael Kinsley famously quoted a colleague as saying, "If liberals
interpreted the Second Amendment the way they interpret the rest of the
Bill of Rights, there would be law professors arguing that gun ownership
is mandatory."

Zumbo's Open Letter To US Senate: "It recently came to my attention that
one of your colleagues, Michigan Sen. Carl Levin, has chosen to attack
firearms owners using remarks I wrote in mid-February as his launch
pad...Mr. Levin has an agenda, and he should have spoken to me before
using my name in one of his speeches, especially since his remarks were
entered into the Congressional Record. I would like my remarks here
entered into the Congressional Record as well..."

Equality Under The Law And Senatorial Privilege: ...Yes, we are all
aware of the violent crime being committed with firearms in the
District, but until recently not much attention has been paid to the
other crimes committed with guns. Those crimes are committed by the
elite ruling class who carry firearms for their defense...

Oops, Wrong Lie: A prominent Illinois gun control advocate found himself
tongue-tied after he was caught telling something other than the truth
about a popular brand of target rifles. The gaffe came during a
Wednesday press conference hosted by Sen. Dan Kotowski (D-33) in support
of several gun control bills.

Federal Charges Likely In Aftermath Of Utah Mall Shooting: As
authorities continue to maintain that the fatal shooting spree in a Utah
mall by a Bosnian teenager was in no way related to his Muslim
upbringing, investigators are considering federal and state charges
against three people connected to the handgun he had acquired illegally.

Rule One Reminder: A first-hand account of a negligent discharge while
disassembling a Glock pistol has a few lessons (and a few
misconceptions) to offer, if you can get past the gratuitous foul
language and the porn advertisements on the page. While I do not favor
Glaser Safety Slugs for general use, this appears to be a good example
of their positive value under exceptional circumstances. (Rule One: All
firearms are always loaded.)

Why We Use Pocket Holsters...: A South Carolina high school student with
a gun in his pocket shot himself in the leg Thursday during science
class, authorities said. The 18-year-old man was taken to a hospital
with injuries that were not life-threatening, police Capt. David Knipes
said. Authorities did not say whether the shooting was accidental, but
no charges were immediately filed.
