NRA Challenged On Arizona Range Claim:

The NRA sent out the following alert informing shooters that Arizona's
shooting ranges are under attack by another pro-gunnie/shooter.

Arizona Amendment Working Against Gun Ranges!

State Representative Pamela Gorman (R-6) is sponsoring a "strike
everything" amendment to the unrelated Senate Bill 1291.   This
amendment would eliminate the ability of the Arizona Game and Fish
Commission to work with any county, city, or town in Arizona to build or
maintain a public shooting range.

With the current lack of shooting ranges in Arizona, and the everyday
battle to save the existing ones, this amendment is simply unacceptable.
Representative Gorman's amendment is a threat to the future of the
shooting sports, hunting heritage, and ones ability to train with his or
her firearm in Arizona.

It is critical that you call your State Representative today at (602)
926-4221 or toll-free at 1-800-352-8404 and ask him or her to oppose
Representative Gorman's "strike everything" amendment.

Also, please contact Representative Gorman today and ask her to pull her
amendment from SB1291.  Representative Gorman's phone number is (602)
926-4002 or via email at [email protected].

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Thank you for contacting me.  Unfortunately, you have been misinformed
so I am happy for this opportunity to explain.   This strike everything
amendment is designed to SAVE Ben Avery from a local city taking it over
and essentially ruining the mission of the facility and possibly
eventually leading the facility to being shut down.  Fish and Game's
efforts, since taking this facility over from the county's management,
have literally rescued a true treasure for the shooters in the state
creating a world-class shooting range.  I shoot at Ben Avery, live just
a couple miles from it, and I am very familiar with this issue.

If you believe City of Phoenix can effectively take on the mission of
expanding and promoting hunting and firearm training as a small part of
their overall mission as an enormous city, then we will have to agree to
disagree.   I don't  believe they can properly manage it, nor do I
believe they  will be willing to protect it from future city councils
which may not share the vision of members of today's city council.   We
would prefer to have a group that knows and loves the shooting sports as
you and I do, come in and manage it, or have Game and Fish (who have
done a great job) continue to operate the facility.   This bill simply
preserves that condition for the future success of the Ben Avery facility.

An additional amendment further narrows the scope of the bill to be sure
there are no unintended consequences outside of the intended protection
of Ben Avery.  I am a staunch supporter of the 2nd amendment and the
shooting sports in general.  I have been shocked and saddened to see the
efforts being launched of such magnitude to discredit this bill and my
reputation. Those who sent out the misinformation should be ashamed of
themselves.  And those who received it should think very seriously about
how much they will trust information from this source in the future.

From CCRKBA:

NEWS RELEASE

AND THEN ONLY TWO REMAINED; CCRKBA HAILS PASSAGE OF CCW BILL IN NEBRASKA

BELLEVUE, WA - The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear
Arms (CCRKBA) today congratulated the Nebraska Legislature for passing a
concealed carry bill, which pro-gun Republican Gov. Dave Heineman has
promised to sign.

Passage of this legislation leaves only two states remaining where
anti-self-defense Democrats have prevented citizens from having the
legal means of personal protection: Wisconsin and Illinois. Nebraska
lawmakers passed the bill on a 33-12 vote.

"This is a great step for Nebraska's law-abiding gun owners," said
CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron, "and a bad day for criminals and
for the extremist anti-gunners who bitterly fought this legislation.
Today, Nebraska becomes the 40th state with a true 'right-to-carry' law
that criminals fear.

"Common-sense laws that make it possible for law-abiding citizens to
carry guns for their personal protection, and the defense of their
families, have proven effective in reducing violent crime," Waldron
added. "Equally important, there has not been a single case where the
hysteria-driven predictions about 'Wild West' gunfights at traffic
accidents or taverns have come true. We're confident that Nebraskans
will soon demonstrate that they are as responsible as citizens in dozens
of other states where concealed carry is already the law. They will
prove that opponents of reasonable concealed carry measures deal in
empty rhetoric.

"Our hats are off especially to pro-gun Republican Senator Jeanne Combs,
who sponsored this measure," Waldron stated. "Nebraska residents who
have fought for ten years to pass a concealed carry law can thank Combs,
a registered nurse, for her hard work shepherding this bill through the
process. She and her 32 colleagues who passed this legislation prove
that there are still lawmakers who trust their fellow citizens with the
most basic of civil rights.

"We look forward to seeing Gov. Heineman sign LB 454 into law," Waldron
concluded.
