Monkey See, Monkey Do: Two Chicago aldermen are seeking to emulate

Outcry Killed Gun Ordinance: The mayor of Montville CT claims that his
gun ordinance proposal was well written, but the outcry against it did
it in. Town councilors voted unanimously Monday to remove the proposed
gun ordinance from their agenda. "When people speak, you have to
listen," Jaskiewicz said.

Noted Prohibitionist Dies: Ann Richards, the Texas governor who vetoed a
referendum that would have given Texans the chance to tell their
legislators whether they wanted legislation to create legal CCW, has
died of esophageal cancer. " Her family said as governor she was most
proud of two actions that probably cost her re-election. She vetoed
legislation that would allow people to carry concealed handguns,
automatic weapons and so-called 'cop-killer bullets.'"

DA Weighs Self-Defense Claim In Shooting: A major issue in the case of a
North Carolina man, who shot an auto burglar in front of his home, is
the claim that the burglar was shot in the back, presumably while
fleeing. Autopsy results, however, suggest that the burglar was shot
while exiting the homeowner's car. (Ample research shows that once a
shooter begins a trigger stroke, an assailant can turn and expose his
back before the shooter can stop the trigger stroke.)

Defendant Seeks Continuance Due To Deer Season: A defendant in an
Arkansas case is asking the judge to delay the trial because of
potential  conflict with deer-hunting season. One of the defendant's
attorneys said he was concerned the trial would take weeks and that
hunters selected to be on the jury would become preoccupied and perhaps
unable to focus on the case.

Shootings Occur While Canada Tries To Repeal Firearms Registry: A
mass-shooting incident at Dawson College in Montreal comes with the
Conservative government poised to debate legislation this fall that
would repeal the federal long-gun registry, in effect undoing some of
the moves made by Ottawa in the wake of the Lepine slayings in 1989. (It
doesn't look as though those "moves" worked.)
