UN Arms Talk Meltdown: IANSA, the principal non-governmental
organization pushing international disarmament of civilians, complains,
"Despite the efforts of the majority of governments to secure real
change, the long awaited UN Small Arms conference
<http://www.iansa.org/un/review2006.htm> has ended in failure. Hijacked
by a small number of states, notably the US, the conference failed to
agree on any measures at all to address the global gun crisis."

Oops, Wrong Victim: An off-duty Chicago police officer shot and wounded
two of three men who tried to rob him as he returned home. (Had the
intended victim been a private citizen, the chances that he would have
been armed would have been very remote in Chicago.)

Oops, Wrong Store: Trying to sort out a confusing news report, it
appears that one of two young men caught burglarizing a general store in
Oregon fled the scene, then returned with a firearm to free his
accomplice. One of the pair made the mistake of firing at pursuers as
they made their escape, earning him some buckshot in the butt.

S&W Museum Now Open To Public: For about a year, tours of the museum,
inside the S&W plant were available by appointment; recently the museum
has opened to the general public. (I wonder if such items as S&W's
ill-fated WWII 9mm light rifle are on display.)
