Good Advice, Bad Advice: Charley Reese offers some historical insight
and advice about owning firearms for self-protection. His advice about
making sure that someone you shoot dies is wrong on at least two counts.
Killing someone intentionally (as opposed to their death occurring in
the process of neutralizing the threat they present) is a criminal act
on your part. While a dead assailant may no longer be around to testify,
other witnesses and physical evidence may be and there is nothing to
stop his heirs from suing you for wrongful death.
