From AzCDL:
An amendment added to HB 2740 (spirituous liquors; restaurant license;
grills) by Senator Harper on May 2, 2006 revives the effort to repeal
the "Restaurant Ban" against carrying a firearm when dining out where
alcohol is served. The language of the amendment can be found here:
http://tinyurl.com/g9tum
HB 2740 is a "strike everything" bill that has undergone many changes.
Information on HB 2740 can be found here:
http://tinyurl.com/zmga8
HB 2740 will be scheduled for Third Read in the Senate very soon. We
now have another opportunity to push for an end to the "we don't serve
your kind here" bigotry aimed at gun owners. Below is a sample letter
to use in contacting your Senator. For those wishing to contact every
Senator, an email list is provided following the letter.

Senator:
The Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL) has informed me that HB 2740
will soon be scheduled for Third Read. I ask that you vote for HB 2740.
An amendment to HB 2740, by Senator Harper, that was adopted during the
Senate Committee of the Whole (COW) ends the government sanctioned "we
don't serve your kind" bigotry directed towards gun owners who choose to
dine out while armed. Under Senator Harper's amendment, firearms can
still be banned in a restaurant where alcohol is served, but the
decision rests with the owner of the restaurant instead of a government
decree. Additionally, individuals carrying firearms are prohibited from
consuming any alcohol while they are dining.
This is a win-win situation. Market forces will determine where gun
owners choose to dine. Restaurant owners retain the right to ban
firearms if they so desire, while law-abiding citizens concerned with
protecting their families are not forced to leave their means of
protection in their vehicles, where they are both inaccessible when
needed and likely to be stolen.
I find it reprehensible that the State trusts me to consume alcohol then
operate complicated machinery to transport myself and my family home,
but considers me unstable if I choose to consume a meal in a place that
serves alcohol while carrying a firearm to protect myself and my loved
ones. It's time to put an end to apartheid policies directed at gun
owners. Please vote for HB 2740.
Sincerely,

From NRA-ILA:
Attention Arizona NRA Members:
NRA-PVF Endorses
Bill Montgomery for Attorney General
The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) has
endorsed Bill Montgomery for Arizona Attorney General. As the state's
top law enforcement officer, Bill Montgomery will work diligently to
defend the rights of Arizona's law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen. He
will proudly follow in the footsteps of Bob Corbin, past Arizona
Attorney General and President of the NRA.
As a decorated tank platoon leader in Operation Desert Storm, Bill
Montgomery, like other war veterans, understands what is meant by,
"Freedom is not free." After returning from war, he served as a
prosecutor in the Maricopa County Attorney's Office. This experience
solidified his belief that law-abiding gun owners are not the problem.
The contrast between Bill Montgomery and Terry Goddard, the current
Attorney General, could not be clearer. Goddard has been a long-time
supporter of gun control, including gun bans that only restrict the
rights of law-abiding citizens, seven-day waiting periods on gun
purchases and other restrictions on the right to self-defense.
As an NRA member, you can help pro-gun Attorney General candidate Bill
Montgomery reach the necessary number of $5 contributions to qualify him
for the ballot and public campaign financing by donating just $5. While
you may not agree with public campaign financing, it is part of Arizona
politics and the anti-gun opponent is publicly financed. Bill
Montgomery is simply trying to level the playing field.
Please click on
http://montgomery4ag.com/5DollarForm.pdf, print the $5
contribution form, complete it and return it to Bill with your $5
contribution. Bill will recognize and appreciate the generous
assistance from his fellow NRA members. Please do this today, as the
deadline for qualifying contributions is nearing.
Please forward this to fellow NRA members.
NRA members, gun-owners and sportsmen need Bill Montgomery protecting
our Second Amendment rights!
