No Guns In Japan?: Those in the know have pointed out for years that
members of Japan's organized crime syndicates don't seem to lack access
to firearms. A recent raid on one yakuza syndicate netted an AK-74
assault rifle and a Makarov semiautomatic pistol along with an M16 rifle
and pistols made in the United States. An earlier raid on a rival
syndicate netted an M16 rifle, 11 pistols and three submachine guns, all
made in the United States. In addition, they found an AK-74 assault
rifle and a Makarov pistol, firearms used by former Soviet military forces.
