Ohio CCW Reform Bill Hearing: The House Criminal Justice Committee will
be holding a hearing for proponent testimony on House Bill 347,
introduced by Representative Jim Aslanides. This legislative proposal
addresses several problems associated with the enactment of House Bill
12, "Right to Carry" legislation, which became law in 2004.

New Hampshire Bill Would Prohibit "Emergency" Firearm Confiscation: In
response to the illegal seizure of firearms in New Orleans, following
Hurricane Katrina, House Bill 1639-FN, would prohibit the confiscation
of lawfully owned and lawfully carried firearms during a state of
emergency, making a felon of any law enforcement officer who attempts to
seize such a firearm during a disaster.

Bloomberg vs. NRA: NYC Mayor Bloomberg appears to be seeking alliances
with other big-city mayors in an effort to restrict firearm sales in
other states. Bloomberg has a large personal fortune he could use in
this crusade.

California Justice?: A California woman, carrying a handgun in her purse
on an exemption from the permit requirement based on the fact that she
had obtained a restraining order against her estranged husband, is now
facing charges. She forgot the purse at a grocery-store counter and has
learned the hard way that the restraining order expired last June. (Rule
Five: Maintain control of your firearm.)

Oops, Wrong House: One of two teenage burglars was hospitalized with
multiple gunshot wounds to the leg after he and his accomplice kicked in
the door of the bedroom of a man in a wheelchair. (Note the multiple
wounds in one leg, suggesting typical anticipation or jerking of the
shots low and to the non-dominant side.)

Teddy Jacobson On Weapon Selection: The uninhibited gunsmith from Sugar
Land shares some views on the selection of defensive firearms. (A while
back I purchased an SP101 as a teaching gun and found that it required a
significant amount of work, as well as a reduced-power main spring, in
order to fill that role.)

O Canada!: The latest argument against the private ownership of handguns
is that gun collectors are being targeted for thefts by Toronto gang
members (just one more "advantage" of registration). Conspicuously
absent from the article is that fact that Mike Hargreaves, a director of
the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors,
is a former police officer. (I have seen a photo of the burgled
1,700-pound safe from which his firearms were stolen - it would be hard
to argue negligence on his part.)

Non Sequitur From Japan: An article that leads off with a campaign to
ban private ownership of firearms in Argentina transitions into a
package of misinformation about the meaning of the Second Amendment and
the risks of firearm ownership in the US.
