Civil Disobedience In Ohio?: Only 115 people have complied with the
deadline to register cosmetically impaired firearms in Columbus although
one person registered 45 of them. It is unknown how many people may own
the recently restricted firearms in that city.

Oops, Wrong House: A burglar in Kentucky picked the wrong home - the
owner is a well known turkey hunter, who found the opportunity to arm
himself after the initial confrontation. (Portability is the primary
reason for a handgun to be included in a home-defense plan; the
homeowner would have been better served to have been armed during his
initial foray out of his bedroom. In fact, it probably would have been
wiser to remain in the bedroom and call 911.)

Oops, Wrong Bank Customer: A bank robber in the Point Loma section of
San Diego made the mistake of trying to shoot it out with a customer,
who turned out to be an off-duty sheriff's deputy. (CWP's for common
citizens are pretty scarce in San Diego County since The Los Angeles
Times drove Sheriff Duffy from office many years ago.)

Feedback From Iraq: This report has been circulating via e-mail for a
few days. It contains comments about US and enemy weapon in Iraq. Note
that (a) military forces generally use FMJ ammunition in pistols and (b)
military requirements and self-defense requirements usually differ with
regard to desired penetration from rifle rounds.

Advice From Teddy Jacobson: I am pretty selective in the postings that I
share from Teddy - everyone is free to view his entire blog. This item
contains his advice on several pistols but deals mostly with the 1911
and reminds people of the distinction between street guns and target
guns when it comes to contemplating aftermarket barrels for several
other pistols.

GOA Fighting to Win the Hearts & Minds of the Next Generation
-- Ask Your Reps. to Attend Important Congressional Briefing on
Education

Education. In the long-run, it will determine the outcome of many
political battles that are yet to come.

Right now, the civics education that is being presented in our public
schools is aimed at convincing young minds that the Second Amendment is
neither relevant nor applicable for today.

For example, We the People (a federally subsidized textbook that is
being used throughout the country) chips away at our national
sovereignty, praises our dependence upon the United Nations, downplays
the Founders' vision on the importance of federalism, and desecrates the
Bill of Rights -- both ignoring the Tenth Amendment and suggesting that
our Second Amendment rights are no longer relevant.

Well, Gun Owners of America is fighting back.

GOA is teaming up with two other organizations (Eagle Forum and
EdAction) to host a congressional briefing to educate our elected
officials on the importance of passing serious education reform.

One of the goals of this briefing is to push the Freedom in Education
Act -- draft legislation which, among other things, would return
education to the localities by cutting off federal funding for all
curricula, including the We the People textbook.

Federal funding, for too many years, has meant federal control. And
federal control has resulted in the dumbing down of America's school
children, who have been led to believe that so-called "rights" as
defined by the U.N. are more important than the rights listed in our own
Constitution.

The Freedom in Education Act would provide a good, first step in the
right direction. And it would do so without adding more federal control.
Just the opposite... this bill removes federal control over an area that
is vital to the preservation of our liberties.

It has been said that the principles taught in the classroom in one
generation will become public policy in the next. That's why reforming
education in this country is so important.

You can go to http://www.gunowners.org/fs0306.htm to read a more
in-depth analysis of the problems in the We the People curriculum. And
then, please take action.

ACTION: Please ask your Representative and two Senators to attend the
congressional briefing a week from today that is being sponsored by GOA,
Eagle Forum and EdAction.

You can visit the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center at
http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm to send your Representative and
Senators a pre-written e-mail message such as the one below.

--- Pre-written letter ---

Dear

For too long, the civics education that is being presented in our public
schools has been aimed at convincing young minds that the Second
Amendment is neither relevant nor applicable for today.

On Friday, November 18, 2005, Gun Owners of America will be helping to
sponsor a very important congressional briefing in favor of the Freedom
in Education Act.

This draft piece of legislation is a good first step in the right
direction, and I urge you to attend the noontime meeting to get more
information on this important bill. Again, the date and place for the
meeting is as follows:

Friday, November 18, 2005 (12 pm)
2360 Rayburn House Office Building

Please let me know that you plan to attend this meeting. Thank you.

Sincerely,
