San Franciscans Vote To Ban Handguns: San Francisco residents voted to
ban the sale and possession of handguns and ammunition even after the
police union opposed the idea, saying the law wouldn't help fight crime
in the city. A lawsuit will likely succeed in overturning the ordinance
because it violates state pre-emption of firearm regulation. Such
measures, however, are generally passed to pressure the legislature to
enact similar bans statewide.

Democrat Takes Virginia Governorship: Timothy Kaine defeated Jerry
Kilgore in a hotly contested race. Kaine, despite his past record,
sought to portray himself, a la Kerry, as a friend of gun owners.
Kilgore, seemingly confident with his endorsement by the NRA, refused to
respond to the questionnaire from the Virginia Citizens Defense League,
an organization that has been the recent leader in defending the RKBA in
that state.
