Brazil Firearm Vote Due Sunday: Brazilians will vote this Sunday on

country. The referendum does not deal with the flourishing black market

From GOA:

Gun Control Bill Pulled Today!
-- There is still time to place your calls

Wednesday, October 19, 2005

Big news!  The House was scheduled to bring up S. 397 for a vote
today.  But now the latest information from the House of
Representatives indicates that the bill has been postponed to
tomorrow (Thursday).

GOA remains the only group at the national level that is fighting for
a CLEAN bill to protect gun makers (H.R. 800).

It is imperative that you make your last-minute calls to the Hill in
support of H.R. 800, especially if you have not done so already.

ACTION:  Please use the pre-written letter below to help direct your
contact to the Hill.  Please ask your Representative to oppose S. 397
and to insist upon H.R. 800, which contains no gun control.

You are the ONLY ones in the fight to stop gun control from being
passed by Congress.  We urge you to not only take action, but to
circulate this alert widely throughout the gun rights community.

You can visit the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center at
http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm to send your Representative a
pre-written e-mail message such as the one below.

Or, you can call your Representative at 202-225-3121.  (You can try
the toll-free at 877-762-8762, but it seems to NOT be working at this
time.)

--- Pre-written letter ---

Dear Representative:

I hope that you will do everything in your power to encourage the
House leadership to ditch S. 397 and use its own bill, H.R. 800,
instead.

S. 397 takes us dangerously close to mandatory trigger locks, and
mandatory trigger locks kill.  Just ask Mary Carpenter, who has had
to live with the fact that two of her grandchildren were killed in
2000, because no one in the house could disengage the gun locking
device that kept the family from protecting themselves against a
pitchfork wielding thug.

People in the home had been trained with firearms and knew how to use
them.  There was just one problem: the guns were locked up in
compliance with California state law.

Mary Carpenter will tell you -- as she has already told several
legislatures across the country -- don't encourage trigger locks...
dont require them... just stay away from them.  Trigger locks kill!

Please tell the Speaker and the Majority Leader of the House that S.
397 is unacceptable to gun owners.  Instead, send H.R. 800 to the
Senate so that we can have a CLEAN bill.

Sincerely,
