Rule Five Reminder: An Alabama man, with a pistol permit in his home
state, inadvertently left a .22 pistol behind in a go-kart at a
California amusement park. He will likely face prosecution for CCW in
California after a teenager found the pistol and shot himself with it.
(It doesn't sound like the man was using a pocket holster. Rule Five:
Maintain control of your firearm.)

Unusual Home Invasion: An Alaska couple got a surprise when they found a
black bear eating garbage and licking plates in their kitchen. The bear
was able to force open a garage door, normally controlled by an
electrical opener, to gain access to the attached home. (Sort of makes
you wonder how inappropriate a .45-70 carbine may really be for home
defense.)

Unconscious Competence: My students are taught about the stages of
competence. Unconscious competence is when the physical operation of
your firearm becomes an unconscious process, as you concentrate on
things like threats and tactics. (Jim Cirillo describes this as
"subconscious.") Here's a description of unconscious competence from the
sporting world.

National Integrated Ballistic Information Network: The push is on in
Arizona to increase funding for participation in a national "ballistic
fingerprint" database. (If memory serves, the Maryland State Police,
after a few years, requested that their state's program be dropped so
that the funds could be better spent on other programs.)

proposing legislation that would bar US funding for the UN if it seeks
to interfere with Americans' RKBA.

North Carolina May Advise Victims Of Emergency CWP's: A bill awaiting
signature in North Carolina would require court clerks to advise
domestic-violence victims how to obtain concealed-weapon permits.

Disarming Drill Yields Trip To Jail: A self-defense instructor and five
of his students spent some time in jail after they were observed
practicing disarming with an air pistol in the alley behind the school.
(On the one hand, I have to wonder if the instructor was really
qualified to teach handgun disarms. On the other hand, you should
realize that this stuff is routinely taught, both in and out of prison.)

Good Lesson From Australia: A close call with carjackers prompts a
banker to get rid of his $400,000 Mercedes. (Let's see now - how did
these thugs select their victim? When I compiled Asian-gang-crime data
at a Los Angeles sheriff's station, it was very clear that many victims
of home invasions were selected in public places by the cars they drove
and the jewelry they wore.)

Australian Woman Still Competing At 93: This 93-year-old
great-grandmother doesn't miss a weekly match. Those who view firearms
primarily as sporting equipment should take note of the fact that these
matches are held with air rifles.
