? TaskMaker - Overview, from the 1993 upgraded and colourised version

TaskMaker is a Ultima-like tile-based role-playing game for the
Macintosh, created by Dave Cook. The original black-and-white version
was published by XOR Corporation in 1989. Soon after the game hit the
shelves, though, Cook found he was receiving little communication from
the publishing company and although TaskMaker seemed to be selling
well where he checked, the company claimed it was not selling at all.

After months of frustration and attempting to get some level of
accountability from the publisher, Cook went to the extreme measure of
having to sue the publisher to get the rights to his title back. The
courts agreed with Cook's complaints about the company. He later
decided to self-publish his games under the label "Storm Impact" and
in 1993, he released an upgraded shareware version featuring color
graphics and compatibility with newer versions of the Mac OS.

> Play and keep TaskMaker for as long as you'd like. You have
> unlimited use of all of the features of the game, and access to the
> tutorial and five villages/dungeons. However you can only complete
> up through the 2nd of ten tasks (about 3 to 6 hours into the game).
>

A shareware payment of $10 will get registration numbers for all of
Storm Impact's games emailed to you, gratis.

Top DL: TaskMaker v2.2.4 as located at the author's [Storm Impact][1]
web pages. If unzipping on a classic Mac system, use [MacZip][2] for
the extraction.

2nd DL: TaskMaker v2.2.4 as above but in a ".iso" wrapper. - some have
had difficulties in using the file from the Storm Impact site and this
is an attempt to make the archive more user friendly for emulator
users. Simply unzip on your host PC/Mac and add the ".iso" to the list
of drives in Basilisk's or SheepShaver's GUI. TaskMaker will then
mount as a disk drive when you next start up your emulator.
You can also access this ".iso" on a classic Mac or emulator if you
wish to; Use MacZip to extract and the resulting file is mountable
read/write in Disk Copy 6.x.

3rd DL: Taskmaker v2.2.1, included for those who want to try out the
?Starlight Dessert? invoke spell. This very powerful spell was
intended for technical support. It was removed in the most recent
versions, after it was discovered and publicised by a player.

4th DL: Taskmaker v1.0.1, published by XOR. This archive includes
images of the two original floppies. It also includes a standalone
folder with the game pre-installed, which works right out of the box.

5th DL: Taskmaker v2.0.1. Demo version wrapped in .sit format.

6th DL: TaskMaker v2.2.4 Disk Copy image wrapped in .sit format.

7th DL: TaskMaker v2.2.4 Disk Copy image (same as 6th DL).

Top Manual DL: A scan of the manual for versions 1.x, in .pdf format.
This is necessary to answer the copy protection questions in v1.x,
which appear after various tasks have been completed.

2nd Manual DL: A scan of the manual for versions 2.x, in .pdf format.

3rd Manual DL: A combined map and hint file for the dungeon ?Poet?s
Nightmare?, produced by the developers.

4th Manual DL: A combined map and hint file for the dungeon ?Vidair?s
Tower?, produced by the developers.

Storm Impact also released a sequel, [The Tomb of the Taskmaker][3],
in 1997.
