A freeware Mac OS X port of Asteroids, made in 2007 by [Craic
Design.][1]
From the readme:

> This is an early - and therefore probably very buggy! - release of
> Asteroids.

From the authors web page:

> It's not all science and stuff - I write games too! In fact, one
> game was so good Atari's lawyers themselves asked me to remove it
> from sale (although ?asked" might be the wrong word).

I guess he is describing this game, its no longer available for DL
from the author's site.

'Asteroids' for Mac OS X
['Asteroids.dmg'][2] (1.93 MB)
Universal Binary, Mac OS X 10.5+

This little game, while maybe a pet project of the coder, was also an
early tribute to the new Leopard operating system. One of the first
downloads to require Leopard for play, it also uses Leopard's new
default desktop picture (Aurora) for the game backdrop. Game itself
offers little, engine was reinvented by the coder, so gameplay is less
emulated and less original. For example bullets fired past the edge of
the screen don't wrap around to the opposite sides, and releasing
thrust slows you to a stop quickly, you fly in a friction medium not
empty space. As for getting harsh wordz from Atari, simply using some
other name than plain "Asteroids" would have worked.

Compatibility
Architecture: PPC x86 (Intel:Mac)

Mac OS X 10.5 & higher, Universal Binary.
