Virtual PC (formerly Microsoft Virtual PC and Connectix Virtual PC) is
a virtualization program for running versions of Microsoft Windows on
a host system.
Virtual PC virtualizes a standard PC and its associated hardware.
Supported Windows operating systems can run inside Virtual PC. Other
operating systems like Linux may run, but are not officially
supported.
Top DL (12.82 MB): A Carbonized (OS 9 & OS X) installer for Connectix
Virtual PC 6.0, it can create hard drive containers, allowing one to
install a (user supplied) Windows OS of choice. Missing from this
install set are the VPC-6 "Additions" so there are some limitations in
Mac - PC functionality - See Compatibility section below (for a work-
around). Otherwise, works well. Requires Mac OS 9.1 or newer.
Registration Code: VPM6-1362-6084-1115-4618
2nd DL (13.69 MB): The Connectix Virtual PC 6.0.1 updater. It fixes an
issue on G3 machines that caused Virtual PC to unexpectedly quit when
a PC was restarted or launched in full screen mode, fixed a related
issue which caused the configuration associated with a PC to become
corrupted after restarting or launching in full screen mode on G3
machines made changes to allow Quicken TurboTax Deluxe to install and
run properly within Virtual PC and minor corrections to the Japanese
localization of Virtual PC.
3rd DL (13.65 MB): The Connectix Virtual PC 6.0.2 updater. Version
6.0.2 is intended for Airport Extreme card users who are experiencing
problems with Virtual PC 6. This is the last Connectix-branded update.
4th DL (13.8 MB): Virtual PC transitions from Connectix to a Microsoft
owned product and updates Connectix Virtual PC 6.x to Microsoft
Virtual PC 6.1, requiring a Mac OS 9.2.2 or OS X 10.1.5 or newer
running on native G3 or G4 hardware (no add-on G3/G4 upgrade cards).
This is also the final version of Virtual PC to run on Classic Mac OS.
Registration Code: VPM6-4838-8814-8053-6653
7th DL (31.6 MB): This is a Virtual PC toast file ripped from the
installer disc that also includes the IBM PC-DOS 2000 as a set up
disk. This is version 6.0 (build 3140) and still has Connectix
branding and is compatible with the updates found on this page.

Compatibility
Architecture: PPC (Carbonized)
* Minimum Requirements:
* A native PPC G3, Mac OS 9.1, 9.2.2 highly recommended (by Connectix) Connectix has beefed up the hardware requirements for Mac OS X, now saying that VPC 6 requires a 500 MHz or faster G3 or G4. (For Mac OS 9, Connectix still says any (native) G3 or G4 Mac.)
* An operating system must be installed on the drive image assigned to Drive 1. You can run any one of a number of operating systems on Virtual PC 6, including PC-DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP Home, or Windows XP Professional.
* For optimal performance:
* An L3 cache.
* If you are running in Mac OS X, upgrade to version 10.2.3.
* If you are running in Mac OS X 10.2.3 (or later), use only video cards that support Quartz Extreme (such as the NVIDIA GeForce? or ATI RADEON? video card).
[Note]: If the Connectix "Additions" files don't get installed on it's 1st set-up run, you can install them afterwards by manually opening the VPC-6 application package (Show Package Contents), then open the Contents:Resources folder of the app package. The file in here that you'll need is "VPCAdditions011123.iso". Make a copy of this, moving it out of the package and install the additions from your next virtual Windows session (go VPC-6 "Drives" menu, "Capture CD Image" sub-menu). Thanks to Fortuna Wave for the heads up.
* Known Issues:
* You can upgrade from version 5.0 of Virtual PC for Mac to version 6.0, but not from earlier versions.
* Users of Norton Utilities 4/2000 for Windows may encounter an erroneous ?FAT? error upon running the utility on their drive container the first time. Subsequent uses of Norton Utilities will not yield this error.
* Virtual PC is not compatible with BeOS or Solaris.
* Some applications may not be able to open files from a Mac shared folder. Copying the file to the Windows desktop, C: or D: drive will make them accessible.
* PC Programs that use their own custom modem drivers instead of the built-in Windows drivers may return a ?carrier not detected? message and may not work with Virtual PC.
* Certain multimedia features in Windows Millennium and XP such as Movie Maker and Windows Media Player have system requirements that exceed the capabilities of Virtual PC and may not perform to expectations.
