There is no boot disk included in this SIT, just the program.
I've gotten it to work under Mac OS 9 without issue with an old 1GB
hard drive, so I'm assuming that everything in between will also
properly work.

New Features in SCSI Director 4.0

Entirely New Interface
We have made major changes to the interface. Please let us know what
you think.

Device Information Window
The Device Information Window contains information such as the vendor,
product and firmware. Shortcut: Double clicking on the device in the
main window will bring up the Device Information Window.

Hilight Color
Now uses the Hilight Color selected from the Color Control Panel.

Copy a Folder or File
Copy routines are now based on completely new code and have an elegant
interface.

BUS/LUN Popup Menu
In the main window you can select different buses (replaces the slot
command). Any 4.3 registered bus will appear. In addition any
supported third party SCSI Accelerator will appear in the Popup Menu.

Efficient Driver
Our driver intelligently shares one copy of the driver among all the
devices it controls. When you start using LUNs this can save a lot of
memory. On average 30 to 50K can be saved for each device. If you have
2 buses with 7 SCSI IDs each and use LUNs on all that allows for 98
devices (2 buses x 7 IDs x 7 LUNs). For more information about LUNs
see below.

LUNs (Logical Unit Numbers)
LUN Support requires SCSI Manager 4.3 or an ATTO SiliconExpress Card.
Each SCSI ID can have up to 7 LUNs. Most devices currently only
support LUN 0. But if you add a LUN Translator (ATTO SCSI Expander)
you can add up to 7 devices while using only one ID. This is one way
to add more than 7 devices. For more information about ATTO SCSI
Expander call ATTO Technology at (716) 691-1999.

Default Driver Options
Support removable media is turned on by default for now.
Use Flashing Warning Message (DataGuard) is turned on.
You can change the above options by using the Driver Options command
in the Special Menu or by holding down the option key when selecting
the drive icon when doing an Install.

Detect Illegal Removal, Use Flashing Warning Message or Removable
Media Support may cause conflicts with ATTO's PCI card. We are looking
into the problem but for now users should turn off the following
driver options:

 * Detect Illegal Removal
 * Use Flashing Warning Message
 * Removable Media Support

Progress Bar Added for Verify Command
A progress bar has been added for the verify/verify and reassign
commands.

Format Progress Indication
Drives that support the Immed bit and Progress Indication will now
display a progress bar when formatting. So far the only drives we have
found that support this feature are IBMs, please let us know if you
are aware of any others.

Support for IDs 0-15
Allows user to display IDs 0-15 on SCSI Manager 4.3 buses that support
higher IDs. Two additional buttons (+8, and -8) will appear. Dynamic
SCSI IDs for devices with IDs 7 through 15 will not be displayed (this
will be fixed in a future release).

Support for mounting CD-ROMs in CD-ROM Burners
Added support for the following CD-ROM Burners: JVC XR-W2001, Yamaha
CDR100 and Pinnacle RCD-1000.

Support for Large Volumes (2 TB Volumes)
Support for volumes over 4 Gigabytes has been added (maximum volume
size of 2 Terabytes). Support for large volumes is available on the
new PCI Machines (9500, 8500, 7500, 7200, etc.). File size is still
limited to 2 GB. Using large volumes will result in a huge amount of
wasted space per file so it would be advisable to only use such sizes
for large files. Large volumes are not compatible with older system
software.

Large Volume Support will also be available in a future System 7.5
Update (probably 2.0) for the original Power Macs and 68040 machines
but may require patches to be installed on the hard disk.

Users running System 7.5 can have volumes up to 4 GB. Older system
software is restricted to 2 GB although rumors have it that some
system software may start to act strange at or above the 1.6 GB limit.

Digital Audio Extraction
Use audio directly from a CD in your QuickTime or multimedia project.
(Requires a CD-ROM capable of Digital Audio Extraction, i.e. Sony
CDU-561, Sony CDU-8003, Sony CDU-8003A, Matsushita CR-8004, Plextor
PX-43C, and Plextor 45C, JVC XR-W2001, Yamaha CDR100).

Addition Commands added to Navigate LUNs
Two commands have been added to the Setup Menu: Search for LUNs and
Display LUNs. Display LUNs allows the user to jump to another LUN if
they are already looking at one (this way they don't have to jump back
to a bus and then to a LUN). The Search for LUNs command will go out
and scan the current bus for any devices on LUNs and will display a
red light by any ID that does have a device at a LUN.

Block Display
New Viewer lets you read the next or previous blocks (formerly called
Show a Sector).

Copy Device/Backup Device/Restore Device
Commands now work from Bus to Bus, Bus to Lun etc.

Native Code
The application now uses native code. The driver is still in 68K code
and probably will not be native until the release of Copland. Even if
the driver were native, it would affect performance because of the
number of Mode Switches involved (the SCSI Manager and File System on
current Power Macs still runs in emulation).

New CD-Remote DA
Recompiled to work under Metrowerks.

Test Feature
Now graphs as the test is conducted. Graphs can be saved and opened
for comparison. Note: Older test results will not work with this
version.

* Notes on the high density System 7.1 boot disk *

Many people have had problems making a bootable disk so we did it for
you. Keep in mind we aren't perfect so if you do have problems/bug
reports please tell us about it.

Warning: Although this disk boots on all machines with a high density
drive do not use it for a universal system because many of the
resources that you would need have been removed (i.e., appletalk,
balloon help, the communications toolbox, etc.).

Until the next major system software release this disk should boot on
all machines given the proper enabler. All of the current enablers
have been included. For those of you who would like to free up some
more space on the disk you can remove some of the unnecessary enablers
but be advised that you should only do this on a backup. Also since
the system software has been stripped to the bare essentials most
applications will crash.
