The NightWatch (aka NightWatch Classic) is user login and hard disk
security software for the early Macintosh. Once set up, it requires
both a username and password, as well as an authorized user disk,
making it a kind of early "two-factor authorization" system.

Each of the downloads on this page contains two disks: an Admin disk,
and a User disk, both of which have been captured from original,
untouched media, and saved as 800k Disk Copy 4.2 disk images,
compressed with StuffIt 1.5.1, and encoded as BinHex 4.0.

DL#1: v1.02. The serial number for this copy is: #80240. Bootable into
System 4.2/Finder 6.0. (The included "NW Release notes" document is in
MacWrite format.)

DL#2: v1.03. The serial number for this copy is: #111836. Bootable
into System 6.0.5.

Compatibility
Architecture: 68k

The NightWatch v1.02 is designed to run on System Software 4.1 and
4.2. The Administrator software will not run unless it recognizes the
current system as "tested". It will also alert the user if the install
media is locked, but appears to otherwise proceed.

NightWatch v1.03 adds compatibility with up to at least System 6.0.5,
as well as with the MultiFinder. The Administrator software will warn
the user if the current system is "untested", though unlike the
previous version, the user is allowed to proceed anyway. It will also
ask the user for personalization information, and will display an
error if the disk media it resides on is locked, but will still allow
the user to proceed despite the error.

NighWatch v1.03 requires: 512k of RAM and the "128k or 256k" ROMs.
Compatible with a Macintosh 512ke or newer.

Requires a local (non-network) hard disk for installation.
