The Digital Frog is a digital recreation of a frog dissection
specimen, created to allow for learning and research without the cost
and effort of a real physical specimen and with the intention of
allowing schools, teachers, homeschool families, and more to humanely
and respectfully eliminate a real animal from their curricula.
There were at least three major commercial versions of The Digital
Frog sold by Digital Frog International I have been able to find
references to through quick research: v1, v2, and v2.5. Digital Frog
International's site is defunct and none are easily available for sale
any longer, although I did find a site which linked to a fully-
functional free demo version of version 2.5 for Windows for download
(via the Digital Frog International site which, again, is long gone).
Special thanks to my mother-in-law, who (half-jokingly) asked to be
credited on this page when I discovered this dusty CD-ROM buried in
the rec room of my wife's childhood home and asked to take it with me
to preserve here. Love you Cheryl!
DL #1: The Digital Frog 2.1.1 ? An ISO CD image containing both
Macintosh and Windows volumes from the original CD, created using the
Virtual CD/DVD Utility and compressed as a StuffIt file in an .hqx
wrapper.
Compatibility
Architecture: PPC
Macintosh: To run The Digital Frog 2, you need at least a PowerPC 180
with a CD-ROM drive, Mac OS 8.6 or later (to run under OS X requires
the Classic environment) and a screen resolution of 640x480 with
thousands of colors. The program needs 30 MB of available RAM. If it
is not already installed, you will need about 8MB of hard drive space
to install QuickTime.
Windows: The Digital Frog will run on a Pentium 180 with Microsoft
Windows 95/98, Me, NT, 2000, or XP. We recommend a Pentium II or
better. The program requires 32 MB of RAM (64 MB is recommended), a
sound card, and a screen capable of displaying 640x480 resolution or
higher, with high color (16 bit). If it is not already installed, you
will need approximately 8 MB of hard drive space for QuickTime.
