Starlight BBS is STILL running and on faster servers!

*Note, everyone using a version of the Starlight Client prior to 4.3
should delete it, and download either one of the two updated clients
on here.

If you're needing to download the client directly from your Macintosh
desktop simply open iCab, Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer for
68k or PPC and in the URL bar type starlightbbs.com and you will be
redirected automatically to the Starlight web page with the links to
download the stuffit files.

I will also post a self-extracting file for Stuffit Expander and
DiskCopy 6.3.3 if this helps those trying with limited resources on a
native mac to get up and running.

Once you're connected to the Starlight BBS, the rest is a piece of
cake, - all the programs files and more you need are accessible by
dragging and dropping files right on to your Mac Desktop.

If you are needing to use the existing client on your native Mac or
Sheepshaver/Basilisk II you will need to change the domain in the
client from starlightbbs.com to bbs.starlightbbs.com, - still using
port 3389 and you will be able to log in, download the new client of
your choice from the two currently being offered.

Disconnect, completely delete the old client, unstuff the new one and
use your credentials to see the changes in the BBS.

The client has been updated to fit on screens as small as an SE/30
(download #1) and for those with screens 640x480 and higher, and/or
for Starflight fans, (download #2).

Starlight BBS is one of the last Mac-native BBS and TeleFinder system
running, besides the Operator Headgap and the only one actively being
maintained. It is not accessible via web brower, but only through the
client software. I added the Windows client, though you won't get the
graphical experience shown in the photos if you access the BBS with
Windows. You'll get the functionality of the chat rooms, files, etc.
but without the visuals shown because TeleFinder is primarily geared
around the Macintosh experience.

To access the BBS through Basilisk or SheepShaver you have to to have
use Slirp or if using Basilisk II by Lori Pesonnen, use Router
enabled.

In TCP assign your Mac with the same IP address your host computer is
using, if you're using the emulator through Windows.

If your not sure what your machine's current IP address is, simply
type Windows Key + R and type CMD and click on the command line.

Then typie Ipconfig /all and press

Under IP4 you should see your machine's ID, - ie: 192.168.1.230 (in
that format or range).

In the Mac emulator go to control panel/tcp-ip and change use DHCP to
manual and put the ID reported by Ipconfig into the line with subnet
255.255.255.0 and for the server address and name server both use
192.168.1.1. Save the changes by clicking the close box to close the
window and save when prompted.

Once you're configured in the emulator settings and in TCP/IP in the
Mac you can configure and/or run the latest Starlight client.

On a real classic Mac or through the emulator it's as easy as
unstuffing the .sit file and running the TeleFinder client and opening
the settings file for the Starlight BBS.
Sign in as Guest with no password, or enter a handle you want to use
and the desired password and when the name isn't found, it will allow
you to Register.

I am updating the BBS with complete floppy images, games and hard to
find programs that you can access and download directly with your
Classic Mac or through Basilisk II / SheepShaver.

Lori Personnen's version of Basilisk II with Floppy Support for
Windows and a built-in/USB floppy drive or LS-120 SuperDisk work
beautifully to produce clean disk masters.

TeleFinder runs beautifully as a modern day web server using a no-ip
domain and I'm updating the system with screenshots and instructions
on running a web server through Basilisk or SheepShaver. The MacDNS
control panel does still work with no-ip under PPC but I can provide
instructions on how to use a 68k Mac and a no-ip address to work on a
real Mac or through the emulator.

Anyone who wants to help add content can register an account with your
own handle and reach out. Since Classila is no longer being supported
and was the last semi-modern browser and no longer works with any
websites due to SSL and modern browser conventions, - I wanted Mac
users to be able to get the files they need without having to download
them on a Windows computer and go through the steps to transfer them.

Starlight BBS is run on a real Mac with the last version of TeleFinder
v5.7.4.
Simply download and unstuff the .sit file, run the TeleFinder client
and open the Starlight BBS settings file and either log in as Guest
with no password or to register enter your own handle and a password
and if the name is not found, it will ask you if you want to register.

Double-clicking on the file in the list opens its description. I am
working tirelessly to make sure every file has a description, and
downloading is as easy as dragging the file from the window right to
your desktop from the file list or clicking the receive button from
the file's description.

There is no modem access to the BBS at this time but I am working on
one node for dial-in access. I have the line that was used as my fax
number which I can use for the BBS, I'm just waiting on a 56K modem.
