16.0.5 is the final version of Stuffit Deluxe for Intel macs (and
Apple Silicon Macs via Rosetta2). It is not for PPC Macs. It has been
confirmed to work on various Macs up to an M1 Max 16" MBP running
macOS Sonoma. It may work on even newer Macs and newer macOS releases,
as well (but none older than OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion).

The software lets you to make modern "SITx" and legacy "SIT" files in
version 5.x format. Legacy SIT files are useful when importing into
Mini vMac using the ImportFl app. That's because ImportFl only imports
the Data Fork. SIT files preserve the Resource Fork so your imported
files won't get damaged.

NOTE: Stuffit Expander versions compatible with System 7 can unstuff
version 5.x SIT files, but older Stuffit Expander apps that run under
System 6 cannot. But you can use [this RESTUFF Converter][1] to change
your 5.x SIT files to 3.x SIT files that can be expanded under System
6 and System 7 too.

Smith Micro stopped selling and supporting Stuffit Deluxe 16.0.5 in
2019, details of which they have put on their website here:
<https://my.smithmicro.com>

As of July 2024, Smith Micro still makes the software freely available
for download on their website, under the "StuffIt Deluxe Mac Updates"
heading here:

<https://stuffit.com/#updates>

Note that although it says "Updates," it's actually the full installer
and is the same exact DMG file provided here on Macintosh Garden.

Inside the download you will find 3 things:
1\. The installer DMG.
2\. S/N needed for installation.
3\. Two PNG files for making the menubar icon high resolution for nice
viewing on Retina displays. (created by JDW)

INSTALLATION:
1\. Install the software, during which time you will need to use the
provided SN.
2\. After you reboot, you will see a new icon in your menubar that
looks like a C-clamp. Sadly, Smith Micro took zero pains to make it
Retina, but the two included PNG files mentioned below will rectify
that.
3\. Open your Applications folder right-click "StuffIt Archive
Manager.app"
4\. Choose Show Package Contents.
5\. Open the Contents folder.
6\. Open the MacOS folder.
7\. Right-click on MagicMenu.app
8\. Show Package Contents.
9\. Open the Contents folder (no, it's NOT the same folder as in Step
5)
10\. Open the Resources folder
11\. Inside Resources you will see two PNG files with "2x" in their
filenames (see screenshot). Replace those two files by dragging the
two PNG files included in the DOWNLOAD into that folder. That will
replace them with Retina versions.
12\. Restart. Now the C-clamp icon in your menubar icon will be
beautiful on Retina displays! (If it isn't, you did not properly
perform Step 11 or prior Steps.)

USAGE
What you see when you click the C-clamp icon in the menubar changes
according to what you have selected in the Finder. For example, if you
click on a JPEG file and then click the C-clap menu in your menubar,
you will see commands like Stuff, and pop-out menus named Archive,
Compress, Encode, Legacy and Droplets. Don't use "Stuff" when you
intend to use the files with Mini vMac. Always choose Legacy > Stuff
(.sit). That will make a file compatible with Stuffit Expander v5.5,
which works under System 7.5.5 and higher, within the Mini vMac
environment.

Compatibility
Architecture: x86 (Intel:Mac)

OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion or later.

Works also on Apple Silicon Macs via Rosetta2.
