Before ReCycle, using drum loops was very technical. Also, once you
had committed yourself to a sample, you were stuck with its inherent
tempo, its bass drum pattern, its snare sound etc. A bit like painting
by numbers.

With ReCycle all that has changed. This program puts you - the
musician - back in control, and lets you concentrate on what you do
best. Which of course is creating music.

With ReCycle, you can perform a number of pretty amazing "tricks" on
your drum loops:
? Change the tempo without affecting pitch.
? Change the pitch without affecting tempo.
? Quantize drum loops (either to straighten up the timing or to change
the feel, for example by applying a "groove map").
? Extract the timing (a groove map) from a drum loop. This can then be
applied to other sequenced parts or even to other loops!
? Replace individual sounds in a drum loop.
? Edit the actual playing in the drum loop without affecting the basic
feel.
? Extract sounds from loops.

ReCycle, developed by Propellerhead Software in collaboration with
Steinberg is "the ultimate tool for sampled grooves", a tool for
setting up loops, pitch shifting (without changing the speed) and
marking multiple "slices". ReCycle is the origin of the .rex file
format. Initial versions (various 1.x) were published by Steinberg,
later versions from 2 onwards were published directly by
Propellerhead.

An authentication floppy disc may be require to use these disc images.

Download #1 - bin/cue image from original media of version 1.61, in a
zip archive (1997)
Download #2 - ISO image from original media of version 1.7 (1999)
Download #3 - A PPC update for version 1.6
Download #4 - A crack for the 68k version of 1.6
Download #5 - A disk image of the Master floppy disk (likely wont work
due to copy protection)
Download #6 - A raw flux image of the Master floppy, which can be
written back to a disk using something like a greaseweazle.

I know people don't like bin / cue images, but the version 1.61 CD is
a combined data and audio CD, and so an ISO image or similar is
insufficient to accurately copy the original disc.
