QuickDraw GX was a replacement for the QuickDraw (QD) 2D graphics
engine and Printing Manager inside the "classic" Mac OS. Although GX
was based on the same general geometry and dimensions of the original
QD engine, the underlying drawing platform became a resolution-
independent object oriented retained mode system, making it much
easier for programmers to perform common tasks. Additionally, GX added
various curve-drawing commands that had been lacking from QD, as well
as introducing TrueType as its basic font system.
Downloads 1 thru 4 are images made directly from folders within
mounted images of Mac OS install discs. QuickDrawGX v1.1.6 is from OS
8 (year 1997), GX v1.1.5 from SSW 7.6.1 (year 1996), GX v1.0.1 & its
Extras are from SSW 7.5 (year 1994).
Download 5 has been here a while, it is QuickDrawGX v1.1.2 (year 1995)
in Spanish but with an English Extras folder included.
For software that easily tests any QuickDraw GX installation, try
running either of two "DarkSide of the Mac" v5 'faders' named
"dvbClock" and "Oliver'sParticles". Both of these fader programs
describe their copyright 1993 which extrapolates that QD GX v1.0.0 is
a year 1993 product.
