OS 9.2.3 is a set of file and disk utilities. They require OS 9.2.2
and IdleTime INIT. This is NOT an Apple product. Version 1.0d3 has
expired.
## Install instructions
### The download.
1. Download the file os923.gz.
2. Expand the file os923.gz.
3. Mount the disk image os923.img.
4. If you didn?t install IdleTime INIT then search it on the disk image, install it, restart and mount os923.img.
5. The startup volume may not be write-protected.
6. Now you can start to use the programs, EXCEPT the program Date calculator.
7. For better performance, you should copy the files to your hard drive, then they are uncompressed and you can change the memory allocation. Drag the mounted volume OS 9.2.3 to a volume.
8. If it?s not the startup volume, then you may lock that volume with a soft lock. The programs can run from a write-protected volume so they can also be shared on a server EXCEPT the program Date calculator.
### Extensions.
1. You may move the following files to the extensions folder of the system folder of your startup volume:
2. the shared library ToolsLib,
3. the shared library SyncToolsLib,
4. the shared library AsyncToolsLib.
5. If you want to use C++ macros then you have to move the following file to the extensions folder of the system folder of your startup volume:
the extension C++ macros.
6. If you want to be notified of touching the Caps Lock key then you have to move the following file to the extensions folder of the system folder of your startup volume:
the extension Caps lock beep.
7. If you want to have your custom folder icons automatically deleted then you have to move the following file to the extensions folder of the system folder of your startup volume:
the extension Delete icon-MACS files.
8. If you want to use the 17 extra Finder menus then you have to move the following file to the extensions folder of the system folder of your startup volume:
the extension Multi menu.
You may move the following files to the startup items folder of the
system folder of your startup volume:
1. the program Belgian Dioxine Clock.
If you want to use PLT-Scheme 1.0.1.
1. If you want to use the current date and time then you have to move the following file to the folder of your Scheme program:
the extension CurrentSeconds.so.
2. If you want to use fast functions for date and time then you have to move the following file to the folder of your Scheme program:
the extension DateTime.so.
3. If you want to use Scheme reports in PLT-Scheme 1.0.1 programs then you have to move the following file to the folder of your Scheme program:
the extension Spec2PathList.so.
## Custom application icons
If the custom application icons don?t appear in the Finder then it may
be necessary to rebuild the desktop database: restart while you press
the option and command keys, wait for the dialog and then click OK.
## Preferences
The preferences are stored in
{preferences folder}:OS 9.2.3:{version}:
If you upgrade to a newer version of the programs then you don?t have
to delete the preferences.
You can continue to use programs of all versions. They will use their
own preferences.
## Portable applications
When the program starts up,
it searches the preferences folder.
Then it searches a folder with the same name
in the folder where the program itself is.
If that folder exists,
then that folder will be used.
This makes the programs portable.
You can put the programs
together with their preferences
on a USB stick.
