## What's this?

It's a pair of Sherlock applications patched to bypass some Apple
checks that lead to frequent error messages. We also managed to get
the auto update function of plugins working again in Sherlock 2. And,
we have successfully been able to bring back the banners to Sherlock!
Everything you need for that late 90's, early 00's feel. Further more
we created some new Sherlock 1, 2, Watson and WannaBe compatible
plugins to use with Sherlock in the modern age.

## How do I use it?

### For Sherlock users (PowerPC, Mac OS 8.5 - 9.2.2):

1\. Replace the Sherlock application file on your harddrive with the
correct one for your version of Mac OS. Sherlock 1 for Mac OS 8.5 -
8.6 and Sherlock 2 for Mac OS 9.0 - 9.2.2.

2\. Trash any files and folders beginning with the word Sherlock in
your Preferences folder found in your System Folder. Only for Sherlock
2; If they exist, trash the Channel Data and Selected Sites files in
the folder My Channel found in the folder Internet Seach Sites in your
System Folder.

You won't find any Sherlock preferences files or folders if you
haven't used Sherlock before on your system.

3\. Only for Sherlock 1; put the plugins you want to use in the folder
Internet Seach Sites in your System Folder.

4\. Open Sherlock.

5\. For Sherlock 2; Choose the channel that looks like a hat with a
magnifying glass next to it, this is the My Channel channel. The
channel should start populating itself with the latest avaliable
plugins automatically. For Sherlock 1; you will find your installed
plugins under the Search Internet tab.

6\. Choose whatever plugins you want to use for your search and fire
away!

### For WannaBe users (68k and PowerPC, System 7.1 and up):

1\. If you don't have WannaBe on your system, install it using the
included packages in the WannaBe for System 7.1 folder. Internet
Config 2.0.2 is needed in order for WannaBe to function and is also to
be found in the same folder.

2\. Drag and drop the Sherlock Plugins you want to use with WannaBe to
the Change Creator To WannaBe AppleScript, also included in this
package. Your plugins are now of WannaBe document type.

3\. Put your Sherlock (now WannaBe) plugins somewhere handy, like in
the Apple Menu for easy access.

4\. Open the plugin file you want to use, WannaBe will be started and
a search query window will be presented to you.

5\. Search away!

### For Watson users (PowerPC Mac OS X 10.1.x - 10.5.x)

1\. Open the included DMG file and install Watson by dragging and
dropping it to your Applications folder.

2\. Put the included Sherlock plugins in the ~/Library/Internet Search
Plugins/ folder.

3\. Open Watson and register with the email address and serial number
included in the DMG file.

4\. Click the Search Sites icon.

5\. Choose the menu item Show Settings in the menu Tool. Enable
Sherlock 2 plugins in the settings drawer that becomes visible.

6\. Choose the plugin you want to do your search query with and search
away!
