MountX is a GPL-licensed system extension which provides read-only
access to ext2-formatted filesystems, under MacOS 8 & 9

This software is based on e2fsprogs version 1.14, it was written by
Benjamin Herrenschmidt, the original author of BootX, a well known
Linux bootloader, for PowerPC Macs with "Old World" ROMs

Compatibility
Architecture: 68k PPC

MountX does it's magic by implementing an external file system
following Apple's File System Manager API. The File System Manager is
always
available with system 7.5 and later. Therefore, this extension may not
work at all with System 7.0-7.1.2

Attempting to load this extension under System 7.6.1, running under
Basilisk, fails with the message "Your system software is too old for
MountX. You must be running MacOS 8 minimum, sorry"
