MetaSynth allows you to create sound from images.

This app was used by Aphex Twin to [insert his face][1] into the
frequency spectrum of his music, and repeatedly [used in The
Matrix][2] to give the movie its extremely clean and distinct timbre
for anything that had to sound digital.
Download #1 contains MetaSynth 2.7.1 and 2.7.2b. The 2.7.x versions
are the latest for the original Mac OS.
Download #2 contains MetaSynth 2.6.1 with many extra goodies.
Download #3 contains MetaSynth 2.6.1 with content different from the
previous download.
Download #4 contains MetaSynth 2.5.
Download #5 contains MetaSynth 2.0.
Download #6 contains a patch file that cracks some unspecified
version(s) of MetaSynth for the original Mac OS.
The next version of MetaSynth, MetaSynth 4.0, was for Mac OS X only.
(There never was a "version 3".)
As of 2019, MetaSynth [continues to be developed][3] as a 32-bit Mac
OS X app for Mac OS X 10.6 through 10.14, with a 64-bit version
planned in 2020.
