MacX is an X window system display server (X11.R4) for the Macintosh.
The server allows network-based Unix X-client applications to run via
an X session on the Macintosh desktop.
Included are Disk Copy 4.2 images of the MacX 1.2 application and
supporting MacTCP extensions as well as the required Fonts. The MacX
Communications software for version 1.1.7 is also included for
reference only, as well as the Macintosh Communications Toolbox 1.0
installer for System 6 that came with my original MacX distribution.
MacX expects the contents of the three fonts disk images to be in a
folder called MacX Fonts. Unpack the download using [MacZip][1].
The manual for 1.5 is available here and some informative links can be found at [
http://blogs.dailynews.com/click/2008/04/30/macx-the-software-you-need-to/][2] (via Wayback Machine). In particular, there is a link to a fix that makes MacX 1.2 run on some PowerPCs.
The 1st download is version 1.2.
The 2nd download is version 1.5 (MacTCP 2.0.6 is included).
The 3rd download is version 1.1.7
