MacTREE Plus is a Finder alternative, whose features include an
interactive tree chart of your directory structure, a filterable list
of all files on a disk, and read-only access to common document types
without launching their applications. The Plus version was advertised
as performing two to three times faster than its [predecessor][1].

To track settings, an invisible "Treetop" file will be placed on every
unlocked volume.

A basic backup solution, DS Backup by Design Software, was apparently
bundled "FREE" with all copies (including those that were themselves
bundled with Microtech hard drives).

The Big Mac Book singled out MacTREE Plus as a "superb" organizational
tool, whereas Encyclopedia Macintosh judged that "a few very nice
features" in no way made up for "the mess you must endure in order to
use them." Specifically, it criticized the inability to leave items in
the Trash rather than immediately delete them, as well as a file
copying problem that seems to have been fixed as of version 2.0.1.

Versions: MacTREE Plus 2.0.1, DS Backup 4.2
