Pronounced "Ma-Kah-Thoo-Gah", it's a free program available for the
MacOS which takes sound input from a CD, stereo, or microphone and
displays colorful animated graphics synced to the sound. Sort of like
an oscilloscope, but on psychedelics.
From the original DOS Readme:
*Cthugha* is hard to pronounce (Kuth-ooo-Ga), and spell. The name
is an ancient name from the occults. The following is an extract from
the texts that describe him (it) the best.
> Cthugha resembles an enormous burning mass continually varying in
> shape. It dwells at or near the star Fomalhaut, from whence it
> may be called. It is one of the most obscure and remote of all
> the Great Old Ones.
Call of Cthulhu - Chaosium
When Cthugha is summoned he is always accompanied by Fire Vampires.
> There appeared thousands of tiny points of light. ... The myriad
> points of light were living entities of flame! For wherever they
> touched, fire sprang up.
The dweller in Darkness, by August Derleth
DL #1 MaCthugha v1.0
DL #2 MaCthugha Extensions
Compatibility
Architecture: 68k PPC
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
* 8mb of RAM minimum 16mb recomended, though I don't think there is
a PowerMac in existence with less than 8mb. The more memory
available the more extensions you can load (palettes, tabs,
pictures, 3D objects). If you have more than enough memory (say
57mb) and you get a Not Enough Memory error, try increasing
MaCthugha's memory partition by getting info on MaCthugha from the
Finder.
* A monitor capable of 256 colors.
* A CD in the CD-ROM drive and already playing, or sound input
hooked into the microphone port. The Sound control panel should
also have the appropriate sound input device set. Turn Play
Through on if you'd like to hear it coming from your Mac.
