MacsBug (Motorola Advanced Computer Systems Debugger) began as a
Motorola 68000-family assembly-language debugger customized for the
entire Macintosh family of computers. MacsBug evolved alongside the
Macintosh with later versions supporting PowerPC processors.
If you have MacsBug installed in your System Folder, MacsBug will come
up instead of any system bombs. The command `es` will force quit the
running software. The command `rb` will reboot the machine. If MacsBug
is invoked otherwise, the command `g` will resume execution.
Notes on Versions Prior to 6.0
Many of the pre-6.0 versions of MacsBug on this page were sourced from
[this excellent 68k MLA forum post by David Cook][1]. It is well worth
a read for more detailed information about these early versions.
Refer to the following manual pages as the commands in early versions
are significantly different than in 6.x:
\- The Macintosh 68000 Development System User's Manual page 77
\- MPW Reference Version 1.0 Chapter 8 page 181
