Probably the most significant release of Director to this point,
Director 4 introduces a number of features such as lists, parent
scripts, compiled and protected Lingo, and more. It is also the first
version of Director to use a cross-platform, single-forked file format
that can also be used on Windows machines (with previous versions of
Director, you had to convert movies into a format suitable for Windows
playback using the "Gaffer").

If you are installing the floppy disk release of Director 4.0, in
order to prevent any inconvenient disk requesting, you must mount all
the 10 disk images first and then run the installer.

Also included as a bonus is a separate download of the 68k version of
the 4.0.4 updater. When this update is applied, you can also make
PowerPC-native and fat binary projectors. This is not necessary if you
are running the CD-ROM version, which unlike the patched 4.0.4 is also
accelerated for Power Macintosh.
