MacGS (MacGhostScript) is a utility that can be used to run
Ghostscript 5.x on the Mac and thereby view and convert Postscript and
PDF files, or to save them as PICT files (e.g., for use with non-
Postscript printers). MacGS is a port of Aladdin Ghostscript, a free
PostScript interpreter from Aladdin Enterprises, distributed under the
conditions of the Aladdin Free Public License. These downloads include
all the files and fonts necessary to run their respective versions of
Ghostscript.

Download #1 is the installer for version 5.10, which includes separate
executables for 68k, PPC, and FAT
(from MacAddict CD#19).
Download #2 is the installer for version 5.50, which includes an
executable for FAT only, but also a more complete set of Ghostscript
files.

The PDF is Thomas Merz's Ghostscript User Manual, a multi-platform
general guide to Ghostscript (as of version 5.01) that includes info
on an earlier incarnation of this Mac program.

Note:
\- The v5.10 68k build runs much faster on 68k machines than the v5.50
FAT but has some more bugs (e.g., leaving temporary files behind when
converting)
\- A limitation of the ps2pdf converter in these older versions of
Ghostscript is that text in any font other than the fourteen Adobe
base fonts (postscript Courier, Times, and Helvetica families, Symbol,
and Zapf Dingbats) is converted to bitmaps. This may also happen if
text in a base font contains a character that uses a non-standard
encoding. (See ps2pdf.htm in v5.50 Docs folder.)
\- The pdf files they produce (unlike those from later incarnations
linked below) can still be rendered intelligibly, if not always
beautifully, by Adobe Acrobat/Reader 3, the last 68k-compatible
version.

Architecture: 68k PPC

68k requires a 68020+ processor (so in Mini vMac requires a MacII
build)
