MacCalligraphy is a Japanese graphics application that allows you to
draw, sketch and paint using a variety of brushes, in black and white.
Thickness of strokes varies by the speed of your mouse movement while
the mouse button is pressed. Booting from the application disk
presents a unique Japanese-styled desktop, but you can also run the
app from the included disk images while already booted into another
compatible Mac OS. Disk images work perfectly with Mini vMac too. The
main downside to MacCalligraphy is that you cannot save/export your
drawings into a file format that is compatible with modern computers.
However, you can always take a screenshot of your work and use another
graphics program like [Deneba Canvas 3.5][1] to save out to GIF or
other modern formats of your choice.

This is version 2.0 of the app, which implies there must have been
earlier versions, but I could not find details if those were ever
released to the public. This version appears to have been released in
1987, and the labels on the original disks are marked 1986. Flyers
included in the package are dated 1988.

It came nicely packaged in wooden box with at least five disks, bound-
printed manual, and imitation of calligraphic ink-stone, ink, and
calligraphic pen.

Runs in black-and-white on Macs from a 512k (with 64k ROMs) up through
an SE/30 (and possibly beyond).

I tested the app with Macintosh Systems 6.0.8 and lower, as well as
System 7.1 and 7.5.5 using an SE/30, and using Mini vMac on a 2015 15"
MacBook Pro with macOS Sierra.
