MacBack (sometimes rendered as "MacBacK") is automated (that is,
unattended) tape backup software for the Macintosh.
MacBack comes in three flavors: Local, Server, and Client. "Local" is
for backups to a local (that is, a non-network) tape backup device
connected directly to the user's Macintosh (though one is able to
backup volumes that have been mounted locally from a network).
"Server" is for backups across a local area network (LAN); it is not a
file server, rather, it is a "backup server" for the machine that the
tape backup device is connected to. "Client" is for interfacing with
the Server version on the network; it cannot backup locally, only to
the network backup device (with proper access privileges).
Although intended for backup to tape, it can be used with any media,
including other hard drives, as well as floppy disks.
The download on this page comes from a package that included only the
"Local" version of MacBack, and thus does not include either the
"Server" or "Client" versions. If you have either of these, please
upload them here.
