Mac OS 8.2d8, codenamed "Snowman" (pre-alpha non-release) for what was
eventually to become Mac OS 8.5.
This runs in SheepShaver (It requires a PowerPC Mac). Be careful
though, like many betas, it is extremely unstable.
The codename ?Snowman? replaces the Mac OS's "Special" menu in this
build, denoting its non-release status. It includes two additional
Appearance themes, "Gizmo" and "Hi-Tech".
The above image file is not bootable. If installing; I recommend
booting up from an existing OS, mounting the image to run the
installer and install this beta to a spare partition, a spare drive or
onto a new (SheepShaver) drive container, before booting up with this
OS. - That is; Do not overwrite your only stable OS!
Compatibility
Architecture: PPC
Runs on any PPC Macintosh, clone or emulator capable of booting &
running Mac OS 8.1
Do not use this beta as a production system as it is unstable to the
point where you may need to disable as many of the system Control
Panels and Extensions as you can comfortably get away with, including
MacsBug.
* Installing Snowman on SheepShaver:
* Booting up to the new OS, for the 1st time; Avoid completing the Setup Wizard which auto-launches (for User info/Printer/Network settings) ? a one time only occurrence.
* SheepShaver will crash badly if you attempt to complete it's instructions.
1. Exit out from the Setup Wizard ("Command" + "Q") after it 1st launches, ignoring warnings that you haven't finished setting up your user info.
2. You can manually configure any required user settings in the Control Panels, after it boots up, without re-invoking the Setup Wizard.
