This is the CD I got when I purchased my Iomega 48x24x48 external USB
CDRW Drive. It is Mac and Windows 95/98/Me/2K as far as I know. It
installed HotBurn Pro on my Sony Vaio laptop with Win 2K at any rate.
Of course you want to know about the Mac version. The included
software is Iomega HotBurn and Music Match Jukebox. Here are The Mac
system requirements from the on disk manual:
"System Requirements:
* G4 or G3 (blue and white G3 only) or iMac computer with USB 1.1 or
2.0 connection
* Mac OS 8.6, 9.0.4, or 9.1
* CD-ROM drive for software installation
* 50 MB hard drive space for CD recording software
Using the Software on the Solutions CD
The Iomega Solutions CD includes several applications to enable you to
create different types of CDs.
Using Iomega HotBurn Software
Use the Iomega HotBurn software to:
* Copy a CD
* Create a Data CD
* Create an Audio CD
* Create a Mixed Mode CD
Iomega HotBurn software has an interactive User's Manual. Open the
HotBurn software and click the Help icon for instant help using the
software.
Additional Software
Check out the additional software applications included on the
Solutions CD that will enable you to convert music to MP3 files or
play audio CDs on your computer. Insert the Iomega Solutions CD and
select one of the software icons for details."
I installed HotBurn onto my 450 MHz G3 Indigo iMac. HotBurn detected
my slot loading, 24x CDROM drive just fine, but had to run some
testing to register it. This is so it could use it to read and then
copy disks to an external device. The drive was registered only for 2x
and 4x reading. As far as the Iomega 48x24x48 USB CDRW drive is
concerned, while Mac OS could mount disks on it, and HotBurn could see
it, it never successfully read from or wrote to a disk on that drive,
even though the installer put Iomega USB drivers in my System Folder
(more later). I also have a LaCie FireWire DVD burner. HotBurn
couldn't do anything with that either.
For example, disc copying would spin up the drive, attempt to read it,
then hang the drive. I didn't get the original USB cable with this,
but I assumed the nice one with the choker on it that I hooked up
would be beefy enough as far as shielding is concerned. Honestly, the
only reason I used the software in the first place was to see if it
installed additional drivers to allow Toast Titanium 5.2 to see the
drive. It didn't.
As far as Windows, as I said above, I installed HotBurn Pro onto my
Sony Vaio PCG-FX220 laptop with Win2K and a USB 2.0 PC Card installed.
Windows instantly registered the CDRW as Drive D, and could mount
disks from it. I put in the Solutions CD and attempted to make an
image of it (in Iomega's CDI format) it didn't know what a hybrid disk
was and created 4 RAW image files, and a CDI image. ImgBurn for
Windows 2K created BIN/CUE files and understood that the disk was an
ISO9660/Joliet format disc.
So, I put this up here for completion, as there really is no other CD
burning software available for Classic Mac OS. If anyone has
Charismac's Discribe 4, or a version of NTI DragonBurn later than
1.0.1, I would really like to know.
