This was done by yours truly (Mu0n) in July 2022 after I stumbled upon
a passage on how to code INITs for the Macintosh for older operating
systems (6 and around).
After a few moments of the normal 'Welcome to Macintosh' dialog box,
you get presented with a full screen dithered down image of the
Windows 95 splash screen. After a few seconds, you get a second screen
reminescent of a first startup when you enter Windows 95 after a fresh
install, and the famous Windows 95 startup chime is heard. Click on
the mouse after the sound finishes to resume normal Macintosh
operation.
I had to pick these images and sound file from the web and convert
them down to appropriate formats for the Mac.
This was not an easy task because you can't freely do what you want
graphics-wise during boot time. Most things graphics-wise require
globals in order to access the screen bitmap and several helpful
variables which are not yet standardized and easily accessible before
the Finder is completely loaded - but it's not impossible. I got some
critical help from Crutch and Cheesestraws to get to the finish line.
File 1 is a .sit archive containing the INIT as well as a TeachText
readme file.
File 2 is a 800 kb .dsk file containing System 6.0.3 and the above
file (extracted already) for ease of use in an emulator such as Mini
vMac or inside a FloppyEMU on a real machine.
Compatibility
Architecture: 68k
System 6.0 to System 7.5.5. Tested good for sure under System 6.0.3.
