HyperGASP presentations, new color tools, hypertext enhancements, and
more!
A Wealth of Features at an Affordable Price
Everything you need to develop rich, sophisticated multimedia
presentations and Web pages is now available in the complete HyperGASP
package. HyperGASP 3.0 runs optionally as a stand-alone application,
providing users with a more integrated and consistent custom
interface. This option enables teachers to provide the program to
students in a lab environment much more easily and at as economical a
price as possible, making HyperGASP 3.0 by far the most affordable
strongly-featured multimedia authoring tool for educators. Serious
developers who want the complete programming capabilities of HyperCard
can continue to run HyperGASP as a seamless HyperCard extension.
New features include HTML authoring, hypertext enhancements, and new
color tools. HyperGASP is now available as a stand-alone program and
is PowerPC native.
The uploaded file is a folder stuffed with DropStuff 4.0 and is
expandable with StuffIt Expander 4.0 onwards. I checked it for viruses
with Norton Antivirus 7.0.1.
Included within the folder are:
1\. HyperGASP installer floppy images 1 & 2. Floppy Nr. 3 is, alas,
broken. If anyone has it, please upload it.
2\. HyperGASP: the installed files from the computer. It should work.
I started it up and it loaded but I am not a HyperCard wizard, so I'll
leave it to others to check that it is complete. If anyone does notice
a problem, let me know and I'll go for the file I omitted.

Introductory Information
HyperGASP is a multimedia development tool for the Macintosh. It
features an intuitive interface which guides developers, teachers,
students, and other users through the construction of programs and
presentations, helping them place media elements - graphics, scanned
images, sounds, QuickTime movies, animations, videodisc sequences, and
text - where they want them, quickly and simply. It also offers an
extensive array of tools, resources, and tricks for the HyperCard
enthusiast.
HyperGASP includes powerful ready-made templates which help educators
quickly develop interactive courseware for the sciences and
humanities, such as guided writing exercises, exploratory simulations,
and electronic quizzes, enhanced by multimedia and hypertext links.
HyperGASP 2.4 runs as an extension to HyperCard, supporting stack
construction through two new menus (offering some thirty utilities)
and a variety of floating palettes, accompanied by guided explanations
and help.
Overview of Features
You can use HyperGASP to...
Add color to the HyperCard screen quickly with intuitive color-drawing
tools and a floating color palette - without having to switch out of
the regular HyperCard menus, and without having to edit scripts. Apply
3D "bevels" automatically; "fill" color on the background; add
"intelligent" color to pop-up fields with a single click. GASP is
fully compatible with both the "ColorizeHC" and "AddColor" XCMDs. It
allows for easy conversion of stacks which use ColorizeHC to the new
AddColor format. HyperCard 2.2 is not required for color.
Place QuickTime movies quickly and simply, using an interactive dialog
to select settings from the complete gamut of QuickTime control
options. Attach movies to cards, to "hot" text, to buttons, and to
automated quiz exercises. Seamlessly integrate video animations with
card graphics; resize or clip movies to any shape; construct custom
slide shows.
Easily attach PICT images with individual color visual effects, or
blend them with colors or additional graphics. Dynamically move,
resize and reclip images at any time with the browse tool. Attach
pictures to cards, buttons, text, and quiz exercises.
Install digitized sound effects selected from a built-in library of
over 80 sounds or from any other stack. Record sounds instantly using
a built-in or plug-in microphone and add them to cards and buttons
with a click. Design custom sound effects on a graphic keyboard, using
simple controls to alter pitch, duration, and tempo.
Create fully automated, interactive, multiple-choice quizzes, complete
with branching, prompting, sounds, color pictures and movies.
Customize responses for correct and incorrect answers. Log results.
Easily create a true/false quiz, a fill-in-the-blanks exercise, or an
essay test which can be saved and opened automatically in a word
processor.
Create hypertext links effortlessly; so that clicking on words will
trigger special effects, such as "pop-up" text, definitions, sound
effects, voiceovers, pictures, and movies. Make "hypertext"
connections simply by selecting words or phrases to be linked.
Transform any word processing document into a HyperCard stack. Save
time and labor by imbedding simple card, field and button-building
commands into text files before importing them into HyperCard.
HyperGASP reads the codes and automatically creates new cards, places
text and buttons, adds sounds, all in accord with your instructions.
Preserve text formatting when importing text from a word processor
into HyperCard and when exporting from your stack. HyperGASP uses the
text interchange (or "rich text") format to retain fonts, sizes and
styles.
Collect important text created by you and/or by the user of your stack
and export it directly to a word processor, retaining its text
formatting. Choose the fields (text containers) you want saved, and
the text is automatically collected and combined in the order you
specify. You can also import text back into the same fields from which
you exported it. This allows you to revise and expand text in a word
processor and then return it to the original fields in your stack
automatically.
Select items from libraries of ready-made cards, buttons, and fields
and drop them into your stacks "as is" or as templates to be expanded
and modified. For example, you can use the "Buttom Maker" to create
pre-scripted buttons which link your stack to other applications, or
which instruct your LaserDisc player to display selected video
sequences (requires Voyager drivers). Or you can use the "Field Maker"
to create pre-scripted fields, such as an "Index" field which opens
selected cards, or an automatic "Elapsed time on card" field. You can
also save your own cards and objects into the libraries as custom
items, for easy storage and retrieval.
Attach special effects to buttons and fields with a click. Button
effects include icon animations, sounds, pop-up pictures, movies, and
other pre-scripted functions. Field effects include such options as
"zooming" text, flashing text, automatic text resetting, special
formatting and styling functions (double spacing, tabbing, smart
quotes), as well as word counts, word limits, and minimum word
requirements.
Install automatic "reset" functions for lab use. Set your stacks to
automatically reset scroll bars and to clear selected editable text
fields for each new user.
Use extensive organizing tools to take the drudgery out of HyperCard
design work. Reorder and sort cards automatically, copy cards off of
and onto HyperCard "backgrounds," bounce in and out of "locked" text,
show and hide fields effortlessly, attach self-deleting notes ...
Applications
GASP has been used to design prompted, guided tutorials, exercises,
drafts of papers, "how to" technical presentations, training
documents, computer-based promotional materials, informational kiosks,
and to produce instructional stacks for in-lab workshops in the
sciences and humanities.
Placed directly in the hands of students, it has been used to create
multimedia reports of research projects, to construct interactive
informational stacks, "graphic essays," and "multimedia compositions."
GASP's intuitive interface helps students start to produce interactive
stacks immediately after taking up the program.
