This version of CD-ROM Toolkit was bundled with the Panasonic KXL-D742
portable 4x CD-ROM drive. I will include the list of compatible
devices and post them here as well. The serial number for this version
is 53006585. It is supposed to work with the Pioneer DRM-604x CD
changer, but it will only read disk one on a magazine as far as my
testing under Mac OS 7.6.

CD+Data (CD+, CDPlus) Support
\---------------------------
Almost all multisession compatible drives supported by CD-ROM ToolKit
can mount special audio CDs containing CD-ROM data stored in secondary
"stamped sessions". To enable it, and have CD-ROM ToolKit spend the
extra time to mount these, you must enable the feature within the
"Options" dialog titled "Upon CD inserts, search all tracks for
possible data to mount". The only multisession devices not capable of
supporting early CD+Data media are :

Pinnacle RCD-1000 using firmware 1.32 or earlier
Philips CDD-522 using firmware 1.04 or earlier

All other multisession CD-ROM drives should work.

ActiveAudio Support
\-------------------
Not all CD-ROM drives support a competing CD+Data format called
"ActiveAudio". But of the estimated 40 or so devices that do fully
support it, to have an ActiveAudio CD fully mount, you should be sure
to disable the feature within the "Options" dialog titled "Upon CD
inserts, search all tracks for possible data to mount". If it is left
enabled, the CD volume will probably only mount as a plain audio CD.
It is not a true device defect if a device does not support this
special technology, so no list is provided regarding compatibility
with "ActiveAudio".

Texel Multisession Upgrades for DM-5024 (DM-3024)
\-----------------------------------------------
In March 1993, Texel started shipping Multisession capable mechanisms.
If your firmware (chip inside the device) is not at least version 1.09
then you may not have the latest firmware needed for multisession
Photo CD media. Version 1.10 is Texels latest firmware and addresses
several flaws in earlier firmware. Use SCSI Probe or HDT Prober to
reveal the firmware version. Previous to March 1993, Texel drives
usually shipped with version 1.06 or earlier. Texel has a $20 upgrade
program for some drives. Call (800) 886-3935 for details.

NEC Photo CD & Multisession Upgrades
\----------------------------------
If you have a NEC CDR 74 (84) with 1.0 firmware you may want to call
NEC for information on how to upgrade it to correctly access Photo CD
media. NEC sometimes offers special trade in programs allowing new
drives to be purchased at discounted rates if certain older NEC drives
were bought. Call (800) 388-8888 for details.

Toshiba Multisession Upgrades
\----------------------------
If you have a Toshiba 3301 you may want to call Toshiba about a $99
upgrade offer. Call (408) 428-6435 for details.

Chinon Upgrades
\---------------
Chinon offers upgrade programs for Chinon CDA-431 and other drives.
Call Chinon at (800) 441-0222 for details.

Known Limitations of CD-ROM drives
\---------------------------------
1) If a Photo CD cartridge is in an original NEC CDR-84 (CDR-74) drive
during startup, your computer will not start. This happens even when
no software has loaded (including ours) because it is a hardware
problem that hinders SCSI access.

2) If an audio cartridge is in a Philips/LMS CM 214 drive during
startup, your computer will not start. This happens even if no
software is present (including ours) because it is a hardware problem
that hinders SCSI access.

3) A Hitachi CDR 3650U hesitates, but only does so the FIRST time a
cartridge is waiting to be inserted. Future insertions are normal. A
warning message indicating that the computer is not getting
satisfactory replies from the CD-ROM and that a cartridge should be
inserted, will appear if your particular Hitachi has this problem. We
cannot address this problem better, and it appears to be an
insurmountable defect in the device's design. The way our product
supports this device is not as detrimental to the computer's
performance as drivers from other companies are, but the best solution
is to always have a cartridge inserted.

4) Texel DM-5024 (DM-3024) drives with firmware version 1.10 and
earlier will make the computer hesitate for a moment during insertion
and CD spinup. This defect cannot be overcome by software.

5) TEAC mechanisms with firmware version 1.00 may make the computer
hesitate for a moment during insertion and CD spinup. This defect
cannot be overcome by software.

6) NEC CDR-37's seem to have problems if a "pause" command is issued
too soon after a play command, resulting in a "stop" instead of
