Fastback Plus was powerful backup software in its day and is intended
for backing up data to and from external media.

One of the most useful features of Fastback Plus is its ability to
spread large archives in multiple segments across several units of
media (such as floppy disks, or magnetic tape). The segments can then
be easily recombined using the "Restore" function. Fastback Plus also
offers the ability to record macros for automated backups.

When first launched, the program creates a new folder called "Fastback
Data Folder" in its parent directory. This folder is used for storing
backup history files.

Command-clicking a menu option will open a help window with a
description of the selection's function.

Fastback Plus is packaged on two disks, with disk 1 containing the
application and a Read Me file, and disk 2 containing the Fastback
Plus Autostart control panel, a folder of sample macros, as well as
ShowSCSI (v1.0.1), a utility for displaying what devices are connected
to the host computer via SCSI.

Fastback would eventually be bought by Symantec, who included it in
their Norton Utilities package for the Mac. It was redesigned and
renamed "Norton Fastback" and carried a new look and feel, as well as
a new icon, jettisoning the famous big cat. The last major release of
Norton Utilities to include Fastback was Norton Utilities version 3.x.
Immediately following the purchase of Fastback by Symantec, packaging
for Fastback Plus could be found adorned with a red sticker, proudly
announcing its new owners.
