Drive Setup 2.1 (Sourced from: Mac OS 9.2 Utilities 1.1?June 2002)

In the wake of Steve Jobs holding a public ?funeral? for Mac OS in mid
2002, Apple became furtive about its OS 9 releases. This was therefore
snuck onto the market without any fanfare or documentation?the
included Guide file was from 1998(!) so didn?t offer any idea what
might be new in this version.

The following description (published in 2000) is from a 2002 OS 9
install CD:

> Drive Setup
>
> Use the Drive Setup program provided with Mac OS 9 to update your
> disk driver or to reinitialize a disk. When you do initialize a disk
> all the contents of your disk are erased.
>  NOTE Earlier versions of Drive Setup can reintroduce problems
> resolved with this version of Drive Setup. You should throw away any
> earlier versions you have on your computer.
>
> To update the disk driver with Drive Setup, follow these steps:
>
> 1\. Open the Drive Setup program.
>  2\. Click the disk whose driver you want to update.
>  3\. Choose Update Driver from the Functions menu.
>
> WARNING Turn off any disk protection software before using Drive
> Setup to update your disk driver.
>
> IMPORTANT If the Update Driver command is dimmed, or if the disk
> name doesn't appear when you click the Drive button, either the disk
> is not supported by Drive Setup or it has been previously updated
> with a non-Apple utility.
>
> ? If the disk isn?t supported, check the instructions that came with
> your computer or disk to see if the manufacturer includes or
> recommends a disk utility, then use that utility to update the
> driver. To ensure a successful update, obtain the latest version of
> the utility.
>
> ? If you?ve updated or formatted the disk with a non-Apple utility,
> you?ll need to use that utility again to perform the update. To
> ensure a successful update, obtain the latest version of the
> utility.
>
> NOTE After installing Mac OS 9, you cannot use the obsolete Apple HD
> SC Setup utility to initialize your hard disk. Use the current Drive
> Setup program supplied with Mac OS 9 instead.

Lack of documentation means I can?t offer the System Requirements for
2.1, other than it works with OS 9.2.2.

I?ll let other more technically inclined MG contributors elucidate how
this one differs from the standard 2.0.7 release shipped with OS 9.2.
Let?s just say it?s not just a bug-fix release. I was very annoyed to
get hold of this AFTER I?d purchased, installed and formatted for
dual-boot a new HD this year.
